Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 08, 2011 10:34 am I'm not sure where to put this so move it if it's necessary I need a new stylish way to store my fabrics so it is accessible but not standing out I have one like this now, but I'm not a fan.. i don't think it will fit in with the new house Any nice storage solution suggestions would be more than welcome Re: Fabric Storage Help! 2Jan 08, 2011 11:18 am I'm still trying to figure out what to do with my fabric and other hobbies. I don't have a new house but having neat storage would be good. I have a friend who keeps her material in those heavy duty plastic ziplock bags where you can vacuum the air out. She just keeps them in the cupboard. I have started buying some clear-ish plastic boxes to put in material. They are stackable so will go in the cupboard. Yes I was thinking about the clear boxes, there are some good cheap ones from Ikea, however I don't have a cupboard to put it in, so I will need either just to stack them or to get a frame to house them in.. Re: Fabric Storage Help! 4Jan 08, 2011 5:11 pm i have my fabric in two of those big plastic storage boxes the ones with the wheels on the bottom finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: Fabric Storage Help! 5Jan 08, 2011 6:02 pm my name is 4walls and I have an addiction to fabric - there I have admitted it My addiction has taken over a whole room. I have built my own work table and the roll/bolts of fabric are stored on the shelves underneath. Smaller pieces are in boxes neatly folded, however this can cause problems as in some fabrics a fold can not be ironed out or marks the fabric. This, I gather is on a slightly larger scale than you are enquiring about, however one tip: label the box with the fabric, colour and size, otherwise you may end up buying more fabric and have it take over your whole room. Re: Fabric Storage Help! 6Jan 08, 2011 7:44 pm At the moment I keep my fabric in 80lt plastic storage tubs (6 of them, but sssshh, I don't have a problem or anything ). I also have some wall cupboards in the study where I keep the rest of the fabric that didn't fit in the 480 litres of storage tubs After we build, I'm hoping to have a sewing room, in which I will use an ikea expedit shelf http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/80185486 to store fabric. You can get many different tubs/baskets etc to fit in the cubes, or if you are neat you can just fold carefully and place on each shelf. Haha, I don't have quite an addiction (yet) but I have my own work table too (It may be too large to stay indoors so I may have to keep it in the garage.. I looked at it the other day and forgot how large it was ! I don't have a shelf underneath but stackable storage boxes could go under there - good way to utilise the space and keep my house clear Pinchy At the moment I keep my fabric in 80lt plastic storage tubs (6 of them, but sssshh, I don't have a problem or anything ). Expedit, thats exactly what I was thinking of Might have to wait a while because it is not in the initial budget/ design for the house just yet... but it is a great idea ok, hold that thought. It needs to work in with the Billy Bookcase .. I'm thinking on my feet here.. I would like it all on one wall to be more streamlined but the Expedit and Billy are different depths and heights. it would look too weird, maybe I could put it on another wall? Hmmm.. You got me thinking here Pinchy! kyton What about an armoire / wardrobe? I have seen some blogs with stunning setups!! Kyton, I've seen those Armoires on Martha Stewart and I thought" Nah, I don't need one of those"... but it may be exactly what I need I will be on the lookout! Re: Fabric Storage Help! 9Jan 08, 2011 9:54 pm Ok, Just building on some ideas .. I've done a mashup of what I first thought to do, which is a Billy system with a Billy corner bookcase ..I could use the narrow shelves for the fabric and see if I could buy some boxes to fit in them to make them look neater.. I am concerned however that the depth isn't very big.. at just 28cms it would only fit a small shoe box .. I have seen some blogs with stunning setups!! This would be my preferred solution - or a large chest with deep drawers. You could pick something that suits the decor, either modern or traditional, painted or stained.... Or if there's a built in robe, simply have it fitted out with shelves or drawers to suit. If you're not a neat freak like me who has to have no clutter and everything hidden away, you could stack your fabric neatly on open shelves and make a feature of it. Of course, I'd have to colour-coordinate it all.... A compromise would be cabinets with frosted panels so you can see what's in each drawer or dupboard. Something like the Aneboda range from IKEA: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Two or three of those side-by-side would look great, and there's extra space on top to display or store stuff. Or there's the taller armoire style.... That Aneboda chest of 3 drawers would be perfect; it's all in one, neat and probably the right size for me Thanks guys, keep the ideas coming! I might change my mind again Hi there, long-time lurker but first time posting. I've bought a house 2 and a bit years ago and last year we had some major water damage on a converted pergola area… 0 7935 Yes, unless you are in a low intensity rainfall area or the area is protected from rain. Do you have access to NCC Part 2 or can you download it? I can email you a copy… 10 12523 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7170 |
