Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 08, 2011 8:05 am Please share your experiences in selecting a external cladding for a new house. We are building a pole home and require a lightweight, durable and long lasting cladding system. Current options are: Scyon Matrix- good looks, light weight, 15 year warranty, costs $50 sqm plus installation and painting (do not know exact price on this) NRG - rendered look, excellent insulation, 10 year warranty, finished $140 sqm Colourbond - not keen on the look, lightweight, problem with spiders establishing themselves in grooves (can plug the ends) Alucabond - love the look, just requested info on this one so do not know a great deal Any ideas and suggestions would be very valuable! Regards Jane Re: Selecting Cladding - Matrix, NRG, Colourbond, Alucabond. 2Jan 08, 2011 8:48 am We are using Alucobond on our build.. what sold us what that it is virtually maintenance free, just needs to be washed every 10 years and thats it! The few details we have on it are listed on an older blog post of mine - details here http://blog.chuq.net/2010/08/house-upda ... tures.html (among other info!) It is basically a commercial product that is sometimes used in residential setting. It is good but you may find its price prohibitive for an entire house. Personally I'm using Scyon Linea. Same product as Matrix but goes in in bigger sheets and is easier to install so will save money (I'm a carpenter so will save me time) . It just depends what look you are after. The Scyon product seems to be very well engineered, and being pre-primed makes finishing easy. We are not expecting to have a lot of time for house maintenance (have 2 young kids, eventually will be 3) which is why we are choosing products that will reduce this as much as we can. (Alucobond and Modwood being two examples!) There actually isn't going to be a lot of Alucobond cladding on on our house - see render here - http://users.on.net/~chuq/img/house/ren ... ront-s.png - the walls you see (south [front] and west) are the majority of it. We will be using modwood on the "under cover" areas, a lot of glazing, and most of the ground level will be build into the ground so will not have external walls. [ Note - I've since found that the specific product we are using is Vitrabond - http://www.fairviewarchitectural.com.au ... anel.shtml ] Built 3br house in Glenorchy, Tas in 2001 * * * Built 5br courtyard house in Lenah Valley, Tas in 2011 - Homeone thread / Blog Re: Selecting Cladding - Matrix, NRG, Colourbond, Alucabond. 5Jan 10, 2011 5:15 pm Sorry Chuq, I was actually addressing the OP's question. As they are building a framed house I gather they are looking for a cladding system to do the entire house in, not just a small feature wall. An entire house clad in Alucobond would cost a small fortune. The Stria looks good as it has a 25 year warranty. We will hardly see our house from the road so flexible on the look. This is the first of many more decisions to come for us! We are building on a sloping block and have had many incarnations of our rumpus, deck and pool (3rd floor). How do you find the pool - location, concrete, decking? We have been looking at a fibreglass from Compass but needs lots of engineering to stop it from sliding down the slope. plus decking surrounds (approx 45k). Blue Haven have a concrete pool option (7m x 3m) approx 25k on a standard block. Of course we would have extra costs there. Any thoughts or recent photos would be appreciated. Thanks Jane Re: Selecting Cladding - Matrix, NRG, Colourbond, Alucabond. 11Mar 01, 2017 2:19 pm take2 We have used Stria on 80% of our house with rendered blue board and a little bit of custom orb, we are really happy with the end result of the clean lines. view of the rear elevation Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Front elevation mix of stria & rendered blue board Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Cheers Lou Hi I was wondering what colour is your colorbond roof in the single storey house?
