We insulated all the walls to make sure no noise disturbed any sleep. Ours is around 5m long by 2-3m wide. I have a 3m long bench with cupboards underneath. Sink is on one end. Then the washing machine and drier sit on floor next to bench. We also have a built in cupboard 2.5m long on the other side. It has half shelves and half left open for the ducted vacuum hose / steam mop / broom / ironing board etc. My walk in linen cupboard is only steps away in the hallway as well as our second linen cupboard in the main bedroom. Ours also has a large glass sliding door - for light / ventilation / ease of access to clothesline plus access to the adjoining powder room for backyard & pool playing. No traipsing wet feet through my house!! Some things are worth waiting for. Re: What makes a perfect laundry? 42Jan 03, 2011 9:04 am We have a horrible tiny laundry so I would want it to be large! - Double sink, deep sinks. One for soaking and one for washing things. - Room for two clothes horses - Overhead cupboards - Room for washing machine and dryer - Lots of bench space - Hanging rail over sink - Broom cupboard - Plenty of light and large sliding door for ventilation - Easy access to clothes line - Room for ironing board and a cupboard for it (we rarely use it) - Lots of storage as we keep things like some little tools, measuring tapes, cleaning equipment, lightbulbs, party things (ie plastic plates, cups etc), picnic stuff, toilet paper Renovating our 1970s home Re: What makes a perfect laundry? 43Jan 03, 2011 9:59 am I love my new laundry I feel so spoilt after the last one. It's off the kitchen and I find that so convenient. There's 4 metres x 9ft storage cupboards, with built in shelves and a broom section. On the opposite side I have built in cupboards with overheads, two pull out washing hampers, a washer/dryer on the floor beside the sink. There is a half glass door and window combo for ventilation and light. Clothesline directly outside laundry which I just think is the best. We also have internal access from the garage to the laundry Re: What makes a perfect laundry? 44Jan 03, 2011 10:05 am Lisanne - you obviously arent married to my husband LOL. He would kill you for storing those sorts of things in the garage. Garages are for cars (and tools and kids outdoor toys and beer fridge and bar setup and more tools etc). Funnily enough the kids have more things in the garage then poor DH does but that will change once the pool house is built!! My idea is that all cleaning items are in the laundry - always been that way. The only cleaning items not kept in the laundry are a dustbuster / broom / dishwashing supplies. These are kept in the kitchen / walk in pantry. The laundry also holds supplies like bulk purchases of washing powder / toilet paper (which when you have 6 toilets you go through alot!!) / paper towel. As I said I have always stored all my cleaning gear in the laundry - as well as sewing items / sewing machines etc. Same with my Mum and Mum in Law. Some things are worth waiting for.
