Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 31, 2010 1:42 pm For those who have security cameras installed, where are they? And a question for everyone else, where would you put them? We are having 4 and are thinking of the following spots and would love to hear Your feedback: Portico (so we can see who is at the door) In the front of the house above the garage, pointing towards the other side of the house and the street In the front of he house n the opposite side to the garage At the back of the house, corner of the house pointing to the backyard. Re: Where did/would you put security cameras? 2Dec 31, 2010 6:01 pm Hi blueblueblue, I actually work in security wholesale and am in the middle of building my house, I've run cabling to each corner of the house which will allow for up to 2 cameras off each corner so a total of 8... From what you've said it sounds alright, have 1 at each of the front corners so they're field of view cross over each other, do the same at the rear and 1 at the entry if need be... could also just use a video intercom for the front door though.. __________________________ Building the Concerto with Allorth Homes @ The Ponds Our blog Noddy @ The Ponds http://noddytheponds.blogspot.com PM me re Landscape Plans Re: Where did/would you put security cameras? 3Jan 02, 2011 9:18 am Hi noddy09 , my husband & I are building a 40sq home with Westminster homes in Sydney. Our slab will be done by the end of Jan 2011. My husband wanted to have security cameras as well as video intercom, so WM said we have to deal direct with their electrical contractors direct. I asked for a pricelist from the contractors to get an idea of their charges, & they seem a bit pricey, so hubby thought we can just get them to do the wiring & then when we move in we can get a licensed sparky to do the rest, when I talked to the contractors about " wiring only " they gave me this song & dance routine about extra charges & warranty issues if they don't do the whole job themselves, so being in the security wholesale industry what is your views on this? are they correct in what they're saying, or are they just trying to get the whole job themselves? Load of garbage IMHO. All you need is the wiring (power and\or cat5 or cat6 cable) and any man and his dog can install security cameras later. My OH and I both work in IT and unfortunately have to pay for the builder's preferred cabling company to do the network cabling, as the builder's insurance will only cover specific companies\workers on the building site. Given that I can buy cabling at wholesale rates, its pretty frustrating. However the guy was quite understanding, and we have opted for cabling only, and we will do the terminations ourselves. Will have to take heaps of photos before the plaster goes up though ! Also, thankyou blueblueblue for your clarification, the house is quite big, just carpeting the upperfloor & stairs alone needs 55 lineal meters ( a lineal meter is 3.66 sqm ), so you can imagine how big it is. Re: Where did/would you put security cameras? 9Jan 05, 2011 9:12 am We'll be pre-wiring for cameras at each corner of the house.. under the eaves is probably the best description of the location but we don't actually have eaves - they'll be under covered deck areas and undercroft areas (see my floor plan to make sense of it). We'll just be running cat5e/6 - and will get IP cameras that support PoE (power over ethernet) when the time comes. The door intercom may be a separate system (as we want a remote unlatch mechanism as well).
