We have had instantaneous for 10 years - love it Re: hot water system 4Dec 15, 2010 10:46 pm we currently have a solar system with an instantaneous boost system that work well. Only problem is that we have too many panels which means the water can get too hot on very hot days. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: hot water system 5Dec 16, 2010 2:14 pm It really depends on how many people in the house, how long you are going to be in the house and wah your usage pattern is - e.g. do you need lots of hot water for a couple of hours at night and do not use any during the day. Like Trish I am a big fan of instantaneious Gas - very efficienct and always have hot water on demand. If you have a larger family with fairly high usage then Solar is something worth looking at. Nathan Re: hot water system 6Dec 16, 2010 4:56 pm Personally I would go gas-boosted solar (I have electric boosted but that's because we don't have gas). Why? Electricity and gas prices are only going up, up, up. Re: hot water system 7Dec 17, 2010 8:26 pm bashworth we currently have a solar system with an instantaneous boost system that work well. Re: hot water system 8Dec 17, 2010 8:54 pm When the panels get the water in the tank too hot the tank then starts to dump water due to the overheating The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: hot water system 10Dec 21, 2010 10:05 pm We got rid of our storage gas system and replaced it with a Rinnai Infinty 26 never runs out of hot water, system is bolted to the wall about the size of a carton of coke. Would go for anything less now Just keep in mind there are Rinnai,s in 16,20,26,32 The 26,and 32 you,ll have to upsize your gas pipe size from your meter if the distance is to far cheers merry Xmas Re: hot water system 12Dec 22, 2010 12:00 pm We have solar with gas booster. The gas booster is exactly the same as an instantaneous gas unit, except the water goes onto the roof and into the holding tank first, and is then adjusted to the set temperature. How much it will save you will depend on how and when you use it. If you aren't using the hot water in the morning or during the day then the holding water will not be hot and will be only marginally different than pure cold tap water, whereas if you are constantly using it and the tank is being refilled from the solar panels the water will be quite hot already, meaning little gas will be used to make it the right temperature. We've never run out of hot water (because it is instantaneous) and it is hopefully saving us some money with our gas usage. The only problem we had was some low-life nicked the gas booster (cut it and ran) before we put up our fences. It would be interesting to see the difference with or without the solar component as far as our gas usage goes. Second Time 'Round Re: hot water system 13Dec 22, 2010 5:35 pm There are a lot of websites with cost comparisons between various systems, and gas-boosted solar always wins in the efficiency stakes. Of course, it's more expensive to purchase and install... but $30 gas bills in summer make me pretty happy. The benefit in winter isn't as great, but in most parts of Australia you'll still be saving. Re: hot water system 14Dec 26, 2010 11:58 pm You are spot on with the gas boost solar hot water system being the most efficient to run, yet its only econmical if you have gas (natural) running into your home. If you dont you can consider a electric booster solar hot water system or if you dont have enough north facing roof for solar hot water you may need to consider a heat pump. the sun master is the solar heating to "warm" the water in the tank the S26 is your hot water system which will heat the water (25 degrees?) so with both turned on you… 2 12410 I want to build a decking to the drawn shape outlined in black.
