Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 05, 2010 10:25 pm Hi We have just finished building and have been in for about 4 wks Can anyone tell me how long the metally taste in the water in new pipes is suppose to last At the moment anything we drink etc has to go through a brita jug I have, as the water is so bad we cant drink it, you can even smell it in the coffee if you dont use the jug. There are only 2 of us in this 4brm 2 bth house but both showers get used every day and we also have solar hot water, dont know if that makes any difference. It's a bit of a waste of water but can be useful to clear them out initally. Did you use copper or plastic pipes? Hi 1sthome Yep did that after about a week of being in there as the water was making the sugar in drinks all clump together, so I rang there water board and thats what they told me to do, and that fixed that problem. Thought the metally taste would just go, but it hasnt. No sure what pipes they used. I would say from the taste it might be copper My building thread viewtopic.php?f=1&t=25279 NEARLY DONE. Its about 50/50 the pipe from the point of entry of your house and throughout the house will most likely be plastic. You may have a slight build up of "copper corrosion" due to the line not being used a lot for an extended period of time. This can also cause the water to turn blue/green. To get rid of it you can run your taps for a while and test the water every now and then to see how it tastes. **IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER** PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!! Catch the water in a bucket/s and re use it on your garden. You could even pour it into you water tank and use it later. Depending on where you are, it may just be bad water as well. I have also purchased filter to use in line before our HWS so that we get as little crud build up as possible Building Standards; Getting It Right! Thank you for the generous offer.
