Hi all, this is my first post, so go easy on me. We recently moved into a new house (to us) which needs loads of work done, so I reckon I'll be on here quite a bit, when time permits. The initial things we need to do are drainage & guttering, before we even think about decorating the inside. But I've started on the ouside toilet because it's going to be cheap and giving me something to focus on just now.
Basically, it's made of brick, and the mortar is basicall non-existent in most of it. I've rendered the outside (practising for doing the main house) which is okay, good enough for us anyway. I'm just wondering what you guys would recommend for the inside. There's a wee hole in the roof which will be covered up, but the rain which has got in has rotted the plaster inside and I've removed all the rotten bits and left the solid bits on. Once the hole is fixed, I've no reason to think anymore rain will get in, so it should be fairly waterproof. My options, as far as I can see, are
1. render the inside, filling the gaps but leaving the existing plaster in place
2. a base layer of render onto the bare bricks and finishing it off with a thin layer of plaster (no idea if this would even work.
3. just plaster the walls.
What do you recommend. Any advice welcome.
Thanks.
