Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 01, 2010 8:22 pm I don't know if this is the right forum, but here goes. We had our final inspection this morning and we had a very long list about what has to be fixed. The supervisor said we should have our keys in a few days. I should be so excited, but it's like an anti-climax. It's been very exciting throughout the building with lots of highs and lows and now that we're almost through the door, it's like I'm over it. There's going to be so much to do once we move in and it seems so daunting. I think I'm just sooo tired, coming home from work every night and packing and ticking off my list of what has to be done before we leave. Has anyone else experienced this or am I just being a sook? Barb Re: Feeling a bit flat 2Dec 02, 2010 11:21 am A friend of mine was so over it when they decided to build in their own rear yard to get a new place that he started to look for new places just a few weeks after moving in to it. I think that depending on how much you put into the build yourself, you can definitely get to a point where you in fact hate your "dream house" I've put 3-4 years of research/design/searching/pricing in to our place and gone from extending to moving to now finally a knock down rebuild. My biggest fear is that once t s done i resent the house or hate it because of the strain it put on the rest of my life. At the end of the day though, I can look through our plans and see that every feature is exactly as we want it. We may have to wait for a new sofa or a bigger telly for the home theater/rumpus room but every part of the house (that would be an absolute pan to change at a later stage) is exactly how we want it. Try to focus on the parts of your home that you know you will love and have been looking forward to, and try to give yourself a little more time to get things sorted before trying to feel like you've moved in completely Re: Feeling a bit flat 3Dec 02, 2010 12:15 pm Hey we are a week from keys... I'm feeling exactly the same!! The excitement of seeing a dream come true is almost here then reality hits you of just how much you still need to do... Just think of sitting back with a nice cool drink once it's all done and enjoying what you have achieved!! Well that's what I'm trying to do!! I hope this helps knowing that you're not the only one! The wait of 4 1/2 months from cabinets to keys was almost unbearable. I hated everything some weeks, then was really excited other weeks. Even the first month after handover I was hating things. I was over it all, just didn't want another tradesman walking through our house... as they were still installing appliances, changing locks, fixing things etc. We've been in 5 months now, and only now I'm really starting to enjoy it all, and remembered why we went through the process in the first place. Re: Feeling a bit flat 5Dec 02, 2010 3:03 pm Thanks everyone for your input. I've had other dramas happen in the last 6 weeks, namely my dog dying and it's all getting tooooooo much. Hopefully the clouds will shift soon and the sun will start to shine through again. Thanks again. Barb Perhaps widen the hole a bit more and insert a nice piece of timber and make it an in counter knife block?? 2 1679 Hi, we live in an area where the black soil is prone to a lot of movement. We have an old 50's house with masonite everywhere and nails popping out, warping, rusted etc.… 0 4499 I would suggest you simply go and talk to council about your proposal, most councils are getting onboard with ancillary dwellings. There is no benefit in keeping it… 1 4069 |
