Can you believe it - they didn't know either????? How hard can it be to get some clarification??? Re: Electricity Meters - Which one do you have? 22Dec 03, 2007 4:17 pm Our old house also have a gas meter with email capability.... until it's been demolished....
Looks like we are going to have email sending devices everywhere! Fridge, Tele, Car, hi fi, cook top, washing machine, spa bath, weigh scale, ....etc. Another source of spam email??!! Re: Electricity Meters - Which one do you have? 23Dec 03, 2007 4:26 pm Here is the Email Metering website that has both of the meters on it.
They are the EM5100 Meter and the M3 Meter: http://www.ampymetering.com.au/aust/elec-res.html I'll have to read up on it - but just seems like a new version maybe??? Re: Electricity Meters - Which one do you have? 24Dec 03, 2007 8:48 pm Hi Phoenix. The M3 meter is the common single phase meter for domestic installation. The 5100 can be set up to monitor amps per phase, voltage ranges and can also be set up for off-peak loads such as hot water. There are also tariffs available if you, say, use the washing machine at off-peak times. You can scroll through options to see your power consumption and the supply authority can download data from your installation by using a data probe attached to a PDA.
Col Re: Electricity Meters - Which one do you have? 25Dec 03, 2007 9:12 pm Hi Col, thanks for that, but is it a case of phasing out the old (M3) and in with the new (5100)??? Shouldn't all builders then be installing the new 5100 models in their homes to take advantage of tariff concessions etc?
Hmmm will wait to hear back from our builder as to whether we can get one... Re: Electricity Meters - Which one do you have? 26Dec 04, 2007 11:29 am **Phoenix** We're requested more information from our CSR on this issue and i will advise as soon as i hear anything??? Can you believe it - they didn't know either????? How hard can it be to get some clarification??? Hmmmm seems that H3nley want to put this one in the "TOO HARD" basket. They have advised that they don't know but "only" seem to install the M3 ones??? Re: Electricity Meters - Which one do you have? 27Dec 04, 2007 1:01 pm **Phoenix** Hmmmm seems that H3nley want to put this one in the "TOO HARD" basket. They have advised that they don't know but "only" seem to install the M3 ones??? Sorry but i think that that is a cop out!!!! I'm starting to believe that everything now seems to be thrown into the too hard basket - because they do not want the extra workload.... Dear Phoenix, Will this slow down your build by any chance? Pathetically hopeful, Cooks. Re: Electricity Meters - Which one do you have? 28Dec 04, 2007 1:27 pm **Phoenix** I'm starting to believe that everything now seems to be thrown into the too hard basket - because they do not want the extra workload.... They have your money now! Re: Electricity Meters - Which one do you have? 29Dec 04, 2007 1:38 pm Cookiemonster Dear Phoenix, Will this slow down your build by any chance? Pathetically hopeful, Cooks. Cookie, i think that it may be another reason why they don't want to change anything as it will delay some aspects and they know we are going to be upset. But not 100% certain. Re: Electricity Meters - Which one do you have? 30Dec 04, 2007 6:58 pm Certainly phoenix the old M3 is being phased out due to new technology and replaced with the EM1000 Series. This meter does almost everything the 5100 does except, I think, load control and its a 1 phase 240volt meter. The 1000 series is the unit mainly used in new domestic 240 volt installations, the M3 is currently available for repair-fit units such as on a faulty meter or older installations as the 1000 requires a new board to mount on. The 5100 is for three phase.
Cheers Col P.S By the way, this is what is happening in WA. Not sure about the Eastern states. Re: Electricity Meters - Which one do you have? 31Dec 10, 2007 10:21 pm Okay, well i sort of have an update to this issue......
There was supposed to be a plan released by the State Govt. (when i have not been told) to replace all mechanical meters with electronic interval read meters by the year 2012. New constructions were to use the new meters for three phase metering in new construction as of 1 Jan 2006. All general domestic single rate construction would continue to use the older mechanical meters. But then by October 2006 the interval meters rollout was suspended which has led to two separate meter types being installed in new construction - dependent on their tariff and energy requirements. The selection of meter type is based on the energy requirements submitted by the electrical contractor when submitting the Electrical Work Request for metering at site. So therefore, if you require 3 phase power you get the electronic one and if you don't (therefore okay with single phase) you get the standard meter. But not sure if the 2012 dates still stand in regards to replacement to digital meters - and the question at who's cost too??? We have requested a digital meter, but still waiting to see what eventuates... If i have i confused you all - sorry......... Re: Electricity Meters - Which one do you have? 32Dec 12, 2007 7:33 am Nice research there Phoenix! Thanks for following that up for everyone.
Knew it had something to do with 3-phase (at least prior to 2012 it does). JnK. Re: Electricity Meters - Which one do you have? 33Dec 22, 2007 7:19 pm Well I can confirm that we are getting the electronic meter, due to the fact that we are getting 3 phase power for our refridgerated air-conditioning. Re: Electricity Meters - Which one do you have? 34Apr 01, 2011 12:49 pm Quote: One is an electronic one with e-mail metering: [ img ] And the standard one as seen in most homes: [ img ] The electronic one was used by Carlisle Homes and the other std one was being used by PD and H3nley amongst other smaller builders. Is the new one the norm now? Which one do you have at your place??? Does anyone know if this electronic one has to be changed over to the 'smart meters' they are installing now. I've only had mine for 2 years & would seem silly to change it. I would hope it already does what the so called 'smart meters' are supposed to do (contentious point!) The spinning disc ones are a different story I would imagine they would change? Anyone know for sure?? Re: Electricity Meters - Which one do you have? 35Apr 01, 2011 2:20 pm If you are getting solar panels on your roof then you will also have to have your meter upgraded to a "smartmetre"-as we have discovered! Would that mean that we have to upgrade to the Smart Meter by ourselves shortly? I thought everyone got a letter and had to change them?
