Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 22, 2010 4:03 pm Since buying our house on Brisbane's inner north 2 years ago, we've been trying several methods of making it easier to get the boat in & out of the front yard. Ideally we want a 2nd crossover installed but the Bris city council have pretty much said don't even bother with the application as the yard frontage is 10m, and the Small Lot Code only allows for our existing driveway. It's not a small boat (5.3m fiberglass) so we can only move it under tow, but it's a major pain when people park for days right in front of the boat, and even more so having to reverse a 1.2 tonne's worth of boat & trailer over a gutter every time we take it out. I've bought a 4500x150x150mm length of timber to drive over the gutter, but it's not doing my clutch any favours as I try to reverse the thing back into the yard. Can anyone suggest another method or workaround for this problem? I thought of something hard plastic in the shape of a crossover that would extend from the road and up over the gutter that I could remove when finished but not sure if such a beast exists. Here's a few pics to clear things up (some turkey in the red car has parked us in when the satellite took the 2nd shot!). Note: I would prefer not to leave the boat out on the street as it's a yellow (semi-major) road and much better secuirty behind the gated fence where it currently sits. Perhaps something like this.... I am sure an aluminium fabricatior should be able to knock something up. I would make it much wider than a tyre so that you dont have to *** about too much reversing it and making sure its dead on http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/20126 ... _ramp.html Re: 2nd Driveway Crossover + Small Lot Code = FAIL! 3Nov 23, 2010 9:59 am I have seen plenty of people with a big lump of steel plate dynabolted to the gutter and road. Dunno if the council would be a fan of this as it is permanently mounted. Would be pretty heavy as it is normally 10mm+ plate! As for stopping people parking in front of your property, I don't have a soloution for you other than to park your own car there. Some people don't have time to do the job right the first time, but seem to have plenty of time to fix their mistakes. Re: 2nd Driveway Crossover + Small Lot Code = FAIL! 5Nov 23, 2010 10:16 am Good suggestions there thanks. I would say something along those lines would be ideal. If I can get a gradual slope (~30 degrees) in the aluminium ramp it should make for an easy reverse over the gutter (no burning clutch!) and be light enough that I can put it back in the grage to stop any sticky fingers carting it off. Will make some calls to some local fabricators and get some idea of price. I like the idea of the steel plate, as long as water can still flow through it it wouldn't be too big a problem. At least with the dynabolts that would save me having to move it each time, and would probably solve the problem of folks parking out front At the moment we usually just put both bins out on the road the night before to stop people parking us in. As far as council laws, that's a new one to me about boat visibility from the road. There's a LOT of houses in SEQ with boats in front yard, out on front street, and in carports open & visible to the street. Why would they do that, they are registered and can be parked on any public road. I have never heard of this before. Those of use who purchase land in new estates have covenants in the land contracts that stipulate that boats/RV/caravans/trailers/trucks cannot be parked within view of the street. Have seen plenty of people that do leave their trailers on the street and seem to get away with it. It wouldn't be a council regulation just a covenant on the sale of the land? and that would be the developer?????. Does he pay the council to enforce these "rule/regulations"....
