Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 19, 2010 8:55 pm We had a run though our build this afternoon and noticed that the painted gloss doors felt rough around the edges and smooth in other parts. Is this normal? We also noticed quite a few marks and chips, I am guessing that when it gets closer to handover then the builder will touch things these sort of things. Would that be right? I will have a chat to the builder on monday, but just wanted an idea of if i have something to complain about or not Re: Paint Quality? 2Nov 21, 2010 10:55 pm If I was getting a new home, I would definitely bring it up with the builder. Perhaps you could say something like "I assume these little chips will be fixed up before final handover and payment as will the rough edges on the doors?" - just a nicer way to bring it up as the builder might not even be aware of it and it gives him a chance to rectify the situation for you and to keep a good relationship going between you both. (My inlaws are builders and prefer this approach:)) Re: Paint Quality? 3Nov 22, 2010 7:53 am Bringing up the issue throughout the build is OK but I highly doubt they will rectify it now. So you are almost right, especially for paint, they like to wait till the house is at Final Inspection or Practical Completion Inspection because in the mean time a tradie could have knocked or chipped a wall. Handover you would be expecting your hot water unit, oven and appliances rather than paint touch ups.
