Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 17, 2010 9:52 am I thought I would start a new thread for people with acreage. Anything from 1/2 acre to 1000's. Maybe we can share our thoughts and experiences on "The Land" and speak with like minded people. I will start. We bought 5 acres about 50 kms south of Perth. Pasture Land. A lot of our friends have 5 acre blocks too and we love it. We will eventually have our own vegies, a few livestock and an orchard. We are lifestylers with a mission to be as self-sufficient as possible. It will be an ongoing adventure and everything (except the house) will be done by us. So if their is others (and I know there are) Come and Say G'Day........Pleeeeeaaaaase Re: Anyone with Acreage - Come Say Hi 2Nov 17, 2010 9:57 am we are also on acreage too 5 acres as well in qld about 70kms from brisbane in between toowomba and ispwich we build our new home almost three years ago now inside just about done still doing the outside landscaping etc.we have also put in a garage as well and installed a above ground pool oursleves as well. finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: Anyone with Acreage - Come Say Hi 3Nov 17, 2010 10:17 am We're just about to settle on 1 1/4 acres in Calliope, near Gladstone. We're currently working with a designer to build the house we want to grow old in! The games are yet to begin. The house and shed (5 bay) location are known but we are currently struggling regarding the layout for the rest of the land. We know that we want a vege patch and some chooks but haven't really thought about anything else yet! Re: Anyone with Acreage - Come Say Hi 12Nov 17, 2010 3:08 pm Hi Thirsty Finally on here..! We are building on 5 acres in the hills of Perth, in Parkerville. We settle on the block tomorrow, as we have been waiting for titles to be issued. Apparently the power dome has gone in today on the boundary as well and we are going up to check tonight after work. Now all the fun starts - building a RBC House - first time builders and not really sure what we are doing! Thirsty - who did your shed? Thats exactly what DH wants... OMG, Mollyapple, You're on here Yayyyyyy, have you got any pics of your land. Would love to see it. Congrats for the power......its exciting to have something put on the land. We built our shed ourselves. It was in the heat of summer and a bit of a slog but we're really happy with it. Of course, now we have to build the house to match into the shed So glad I have another RBC build to follow Will look out for your own thread and if you need any questions answered......fire away My thread is in my sig Re: Anyone with Acreage - Come Say Hi 15Nov 17, 2010 4:24 pm WOW had a look at your plan it's beautiful,I like master bedroom with views out back.Is your home built on stunps or slab?,I am hoping to build on stumps. My draft plan is in building a new house forum Re: Anyone with Acreage - Come Say Hi 16Nov 17, 2010 4:41 pm Thanks pattycake We plan on staying in it for the rest of our years. Its going on a pad. Is there a reason you're going on stumps - (slope of land, soil type)???? Re: Anyone with Acreage - Come Say Hi 17Nov 17, 2010 5:01 pm Not really,I like heating from floor[thought about slab heating to costly],I also like timber decking.Land is fairly flat M class or stumps min 500mm Re: Anyone with Acreage - Come Say Hi 18Nov 17, 2010 5:16 pm Our heating and cooling is going to cost us a fortune I looked into the floor heating but we r going to have hardwood flooring and it doesnt go well with it. We having decking too Love it. I saw your plans. With the changes its going to be great. Re: Anyone with Acreage - Come Say Hi 19Nov 17, 2010 8:21 pm Hi Have 5 acres in Melbourne. Just sorting out the house plans now - going to have an 8 car garage, and my OH says it still won't be enough space to store everything. (horse float, trailers, ride on mowers, cars, motorbikes etc) Going to have some ponies, maybe chickens, but definitely a big veggie patch and fruit trees. I wish I was already there - its so soothing being surrounded by trees and nature. On 3/4 of a acre on the edge of a country town. Not allowed livestock unfortunately. The block is very rocky so we are only having a proper front yard and the back will gradually get trees and some native bushes. The trees are a mix of deciduous, native gums and bushes and fruit trees. I have 2 smallish veggie patch areas in my garden beds out the front. One has potatoes and the other a mix of things. I hope to put in some of those metal/colorbond raised beds out the back in the future sometime. 1 4561 Wish you all the best.
