Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 15, 2010 11:12 pm Hi again, my original post now seems kind of 'garbled', so I thought I'd post again with a pic/ sketch, + text, might be better. I hope the pic-attachment works. For those of you that missed the first (exciting) post, I want to build the roof seen in the attached pic' beside the house ('outside' / roof made of plastic-sheet, not tiled), but am finding it hard to source steel or wood beams that are 6.5M long and their respective weight-baring certification / (span-tables ?); to get 6M seems no problem, but shortening the roof to 6M on this dimension is not an option. Any advice would be greatly appreciated re wether to go steel or wood, and where to get it. Check with whoever is doing the certification is this can be done, you'll most probably end up having to track down someone who holds a structural steel welders' ticket to do the work. (Must say-quite impressed with the picture. Very nice, should put in a frame and enter it at the Royal show, might get a ribbon out of it.) I'll most likely heed your advice; always have preferred the longevity of steel (wood seems unreali$tic anyways beyond about 6M). Re the pic', it was done on 'google-sketch-up' by a 'structurally-minded' friend. Thanks again for your advice. Cheers, Owen Sorry! I'm new to this forum and have made a mistake in my posting!
