Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 08, 2010 7:17 pm Im one of 20 people meeting with the Stockland representative in regards to the new local park and play space at Mernda Villages. The consultation is in regards to the design and features of the area. Im quite excited by it, as we will no doubt be there quite often since we have no yard Im going to do a bit of research but I was wondering if there were particular things you like or dont like about your local park? What you would like to see? Park 'turn offs'? etc etc... Thank you! Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! BBQ area. Drinking fountain. Open space far enough away from play equipment so that a footy etc can be kicked freely. A couple of areas of play equipment for different ages. Swings (why do so many parks not have swings???) Big shady trees (good climbing ones!). Lots and lots of seating (mixture of shaded and unshaded). Parks never have enough seats. Lots of bins (including low ones that kids can reach easily). I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Re: What do you want in/out of a park?? 5Nov 08, 2010 7:55 pm equipment wise, my DS's favourite playground is one where you can make lots of different "passages" through things... where all the bits connect together and you can get from one end to the other in 100 different ways. there is a park near Whitten Oval in footscray which DS will always choose first because of the equipment. I tried to find a pic of it but couldn't find one. "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Re: What do you want in/out of a park?? 6Nov 08, 2010 8:48 pm Yay to all of the above (esp seating) Also that the equipment is not near the road if there is enough space and equipment for all ages - not enough equipment for the under 3's in some parks. Yes yes....a bike area would be fantastic! DD has a bike now and she wants to ride it everywhere except most parks aren't really set up for bikes. Great idea My house and my rants.... - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=26937 We are in!!!...and still unpacking. Thankfully there are always Tim Tams Re: What do you want in/out of a park?? 10Nov 08, 2010 9:04 pm Toilets - It is alright for DS he just goes near a tree, but for DD not so easy to squat in the park Make sure there is atleast 2 swings with the back seat/seatbelt combo - I am forever trying to stop my two over arguing who gets that swing first. My DD is nearly 5 and still fits in it with ease - kids prefer them so much better because they are safer and they can go higher My karma ran over your dogma Re: What do you want in/out of a park?? 12Nov 08, 2010 9:20 pm yeah my kid fight over the baby swing too lol. I thought of another thing - adult seating near to the play equipment. when I go to some parks with my kids the picnic/seating area is so far away from the equipment that I never ever get to sit down there and have to find a little ledge on the playground somewhere. Re: What do you want in/out of a park?? 14Nov 08, 2010 9:31 pm Lots of soft fall underneath - either the rubber type or pine bark mulch. Good bright lighting and regular security patrols during night hours - to stop vandals from torching the equipment. Some things are worth waiting for. What do you want in/out of a park?? 15Nov 08, 2010 9:31 pm We got to parks where all the play equipment is fenced. Some have been large and others tiny. Just peace of mid knowing they can't get out and wander off. The play areas we have been too have seating on the inside and on the outside of fenced area BBQ facilities with basketball half court, plenty of grass area for kicking footys and running around. Goodluck with it all! Re: What do you want in/out of a park?? 16Nov 08, 2010 9:34 pm When I was younger I used to love the Adventure Park up at Eltham North (across from the primary school), not sure if Stockland is planing on making the play area that large though! Otherwise... - Shelter - Seating & tables - Like others have said, an area big enough for a game of footy/cricket - Toilets - Water source (drinking fountain) And pretty much what has already been mentioned viewtopic.php?f=31&t=37229 - our Iris 4! Re: What do you want in/out of a park?? 17Nov 08, 2010 9:37 pm SHADE trees and structure the rubber soft fall heats up 5 times faster than concrete so soft fall mulch is a better alternative IMO what good is a park if it is too hot Seating areas over looking the equipment Bike paths with lane markings (kids love these) smaller children have an area away from the bigger kids play equipment but not too far I went outside once. Re: What do you want in/out of a park?? 18Nov 08, 2010 9:43 pm Wow you get to have a meeting with stock land about it, that's big of them - they have totally shafted all Sierra residents. We were sold on our block due to the close proximity of 'Hilltop Park' 13 hectares of park. They have renegged on their promise to develop it and it is just a huge lot of fallen down trees and overgrowth with a fence around it so boo to stock land, all their other estates get wonderfully developed areas with waterways, swings etc. Building at Sierra Estate.
