Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 07, 2008 5:16 pm We were in Bunnings today for about an hour. I LOVE IT! I was like, Oh my god, we have to look at laundry baskets! And door handles! And tiles! And carpet! Oh look, paint! AND LOOK! PLANTS! AND LIGHTS!!! lol (I'd never been before)
Anyway, we were looking at the selection of carpet and also tiles, and they were quite nice, much the same as Carpet Choice, Carpet Court, Andersens, all of those places, but maybe not as much variety, and we saw they do an installation service... I'm going to ask them how much their carpets are and how much their installation service is, but are they any good? Has anyone used them for floor coverings, or is it better to go through "proper" carpet places who specialise in flooring? Also, sorry to squash a second question into the same post, but does anyone have any preferred carpet place? - Andersens - Carpet Choice - Carpet Call - Carpet Court - World Carpets - Harvey Norman Flooring ??? Thank you! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: How good is Bunnings for floor coverings? 2Jun 07, 2008 5:52 pm This was raised on my forum a while back. Bunnings had been trying to get contractors to service their clients. Here's one guy's comments...
They rang me several times about 9 - 12 months ago. (carpet installation only) Out of curiosity I asked them how they were going to operate it. The customer brings in his/her measurements (which I will guarantee will be incorrect 90% of the time) and you pick up carpet and underlay from their warehouse and install carpet. Remember, Bunnings guarantee the LOWEST prices. I quizzed them about what happens if the job could not be done due to various reasons - floor prep req'd, furniture and take up not quoted or allowed for, carpet cut short due to customer's incorrect measurements etc, etc. Of course, they had no satisfactory answers as to who would pay for the installer's wasted time. Also, I would expect the majority of the work would be Prime Minister's jobs (K.Rudd) So good luck to anyone prepared to take it on - you will need it in large doses What would you expect to get from a company like that? Ash. Re: How good is Bunnings for floor coverings? 3Jun 07, 2008 7:34 pm Wow...I think I'll stick to proper carpet companies then! Thank you! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: How good is Bunnings for floor coverings? 4Jul 22, 2008 12:04 am Can't comment on Bunnings carpet. I have used my local carpet choice in the past and have been very happy with the quality and service.
As for tiles, Bunnings sells complete crap at pretty ordinary prices. If you go to a tile store you will do a lot better for the same money. As for their installers I would not trust them. If you look around on tiling forums you hear to many horror stories from people who went with the installer organised by the tile shop. Pretty sure carpeting is different though. Re: How good is Bunnings for floor coverings? 5Jul 22, 2008 12:15 am We go to Bunnings for basic hardware items like screws, pots, glue, annuals, and fertilizer. I definitely wouldn't get carpet or flooring from there . Re: How good is Bunnings for floor coverings? 6Jul 22, 2008 12:19 am Bunnings is excellent for tiles.........
There's always broken tiles on the floor which they give away if your into doing mosaics.....particularly if you know what your dropping....did I say that.... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: How good is Bunnings for floor coverings? 7Jul 22, 2008 12:39 am royalblue Bunnings had been trying to get contractors to service their clients. We have previously gone through Harvey Norman for both floating floors and carpet on another house. Really impressed by their customer service, product range and installation. It was a farm house 2 hours away, no problems for the installers. I have also spent a year trying to find the "perfect" carpet, there it was at Harvey Norman on Sunday, the exact texture and colour I wanted. sales guy gave me a price for everything, much lower than the ticket price and we hadnt even started to bargain. Despite the horror stories I have heard about HN, I really like the flooring section...they are actually run by another company. Hope this has helped a bit. As usual Mrs B provides another comment with balance.... ....I'm often quick to slag off the "majors" but I must say when you find a corker of a sales rep they are worth there weight in gold. There's a lady in the gardening section who works weekday nights at the local Bunnings and I always seek here out for sound advice, similarly there's a chap in the fasteners section who is steered me away from expensive purchases and offered practical advice.....he only works during the day. If I want to buy electrical appliances I go to one store and see the store manager (he's always on the floor)....in 10 years he's never been beaten on price and has offered full and frank advice....some home truths he's offered on certain appliances that have been backed up by people's experiences on this forum. The range offered by "majors" combined with good advice can be extremely helpful. joles royalblue Bunnings had been trying to get contractors to service their clients.
