I was thinking about our living area, and one of the things I don't like here, is that I have ALL the lights on if I want to sit on the couch and read, whereas I'd like just a lamp on. But in the new house, chances are we'll have the couches as below, and I'd love to put at least one lamp on one of the possible tables (in green!), but would need a power source. I was thinking if I could get a low profile gpo on the floor where the couch would be, then it wouldn't be ugly..and, on the updated plans we have they show a conduit going from the lounge side in to the island, right about where I'd want it, so they couldn't claim it'd be TOO hard right? So, can a power point be put in the slab, and if we plan on wooden floors (of some sort) how would they go around it? Does anyone know what I mean? and have pics?? my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Floor power point? 2Nov 04, 2010 2:23 pm Clipsal make these another place that makes them are These guys and the conduuit/ and box that feeds them needs to be done at slab stage, get your sparkie to look into it Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: Floor power point? 3Nov 04, 2010 3:45 pm Maybe you could look at a Home Automation unit (C-BUS or similar) and use a remote control for the lamp? Re: Floor power point? 4Nov 04, 2010 3:52 pm wouldn't that still require a power source within cords distance? I have 2 small kids, I can't have cords across the room my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Floor power point? 5Nov 04, 2010 4:51 pm tinkster wouldn't that still require a power source within cords distance? I have 2 small kids, I can't have cords across the room Floor box under where couch would be, then run leads under the couch and to the side tables - it is really your only option (unless you change/widen the room setout and have side tables next to wall). Re: Floor power point? 6Nov 04, 2010 9:10 pm My boyfriends parents have power points in the floor. The builders forget to make space for the conduit before it dried (or something like that) so had to chip away at the concrete! they have bamboo flooring and to show that there is power, there is a neat little silver square lid that you flip up. I think one of the tables covers it. Re: Floor power point? 7Nov 05, 2010 7:10 am Sorry, I missed the location of the power point being an issue as well. I only looked at the switching on and off part. Would also like an opinion from anyone that has used xcem over hebel for floors. Thanks 1 14221 Building Standards; Getting It Right!
