Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 28, 2010 4:43 pm Hi Guys & Gals My wife and I have just bought an 80 year old Queenslander as our first 'house' in Brissy. Had the building inspection today and the inspector recommended that we look at getting a new roof (zincalume I guess) put on as the current roof is very old and in his opinion will have a few leaks. I've called Modern Roofing and he reckons 12-13 grand and had some other people say 12-13k also. Wondering if this sounds about right and if anyone on here can recommend anyone they have used previously who has done a decent job. (roof is approx 104sqm) We are not in a rush to do it, but want to get prepared. Cheers Wocko Re: Anyone recommend a good roofer? 2Oct 31, 2010 8:13 am Hi Wocko I am in the same boat getting quotes .Do your homework on Modern they are very dear I nave 2 Quotes 1 from Rooroofing very thorough quote my quote on a 150 m2 roof with a pitch of 22 degrees which works out to 167.84 m2 in roof sheeting Price is $10,070 including 20 LM OF batten replacement Highly recommend ThE 2ND quote from Roof Masters 2 years old $10736 Cheers Re: Anyone recommend a good roofer? 3Oct 31, 2010 8:23 am Everytime I've got a quote from Modern for anything they've been a tad overpriced ... but only too happy to reduce the price if you call them on it Family members used Qld Roof Restoration and they were very happy with them. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Anyone recommend a good roofer? 4Oct 31, 2010 11:28 am My recomendation is stay away from Modern roofing. I had them redo my roof years ago and the problem is that they are a large company that sub-contracts all their work. So the contractor could be anyone and they have very little vested interest in doing a good job as they are probably paid a fixed rate and reputation has little to do with them. As it was the workmanship was terrible and when I complained they just sent around the contractor who demanded his money on the spot. The way it works is you pay the contractor so you end up dealing with the individual anyway. When I complained again all they did was come around and take their sign away and promised to sen the contractor back which never happened. They are an appauling company to deal with. I'd recomend getting a smaller contractor who runs their own business and does the work themselves - they will probably be cheaper and better to deal with. Re: Anyone recommend a good roofer? 5Nov 01, 2010 10:15 am Thanks for the advice guys! Sounds like Modern are a bit dodge and it's good to hear from other people who have/are going through the experience. I had heard similar things about Modern from people here at work. I will check out the other mobs that you have mentioned. Much appreciated! Re: Anyone recommend a good roofer? 6Nov 02, 2010 8:40 pm Wocko Thanks for the advice guys!
