Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 24, 2010 3:27 pm How did you rate your sales consultant when you bought your house? Did you buy the house or did you "buy the consultant" as they were so good in selling? Don't fall for the "Freebies" scam Re: Sales Consultants 2Oct 24, 2010 6:21 pm We fell for the house after looking at it several times over a period of 18 months. Several sales people had spoken to us briefly and had "taken our names". We "chose" the one we related to best and who had been the most helpful. It was a very good decision and his "help" extended well into the build. One of the others was a bit "miffed" when he did a follow-up call to find we were dealing with another salesperson. But we had only spoken to him for 5 minutes on one occasion, so we didn't feel obliged to go with anyone other than the one we chose. He was good at selling because he had the right product, he knew and understood the product and the building process well, he is a genuinely nice bloke, he had lots of helpful ideas and we found it pleasant and relaxing to deal with him. There was no BS and we trusted and respected his honesty. During the build, our initial impressions were re-enforced and consolidated. Cheers zeke Re: Sales Consultants 3Oct 24, 2010 8:44 pm Definitely the house. On such a huge thing the sales person could have been the best in the world, we wouldn't have built a house we didn't absolutely want (even more so with all the prior research). A trained money could have sold us our house once we picked it... You generally don't impulse build a house and you have a long time to change your mind after you sign the initial quote without penalty.. The main value of a good sales consultant is with the add-ons and extras IMO. This isn't just at sales, it extends into electrical and colour selections. Re: Sales Consultants 4Oct 25, 2010 11:23 am My DH is a sales consultant - he definitely sold me into building again He was ok...missed a few things that would have been good to have Knows his stuff though due to his extensive background in the industry - which was good for me in terms of the process and what could go wrong and what to expect cost wise. A good consultant who understands a lot more about the process and building than just selling are worth their weight in gold IMO. My house and my rants.... - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=26937 We are in!!!...and still unpacking. Thankfully there are always Tim Tams Re: Sales Consultants 5Oct 25, 2010 9:08 pm I (We) don't like our sales guy, but He's the one our builder (small builder/franchise owner) says we have to deal with for the most part leading up to the build. We're hoping that we won't have to deal with the sales guy after we start. Almost every question we have had, Sales guy has had to go and ask the builder what the answer was. Builder is great, knows his stuff and is almost spot on with spot quotes and "guesstimations" We had a couple retaining wall questions, builder referred us to his engineer, I rang him on the spot and the engineers price was within $15 of the builders estimate and it was a $10k job. I think the world would be much better off without a lot of the sales people/teams in many industries. |
