Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 23, 2010 12:29 pm Hi, Im new to this forum and I just have a quick question. I have an aquarium set up on the 1st story of our new house. It wears around 200kg? Not too sure but should be around that weight. I was doing a water change today and I kinda spilled around 2 litres of water onto the carpet. Ive been tryin to dry it up and it is still a bit damp. There is an underlay under the carpet and then its just the woodchip boards (could be something else, not sure what its called but its the kind that is usually used in double storey houses). I would not worry so much if this was the ground floor as under the carpet and underlay, would just be concrete. Im pretty sure that some water would have seeped through the carpet and underlay onto the woodchip boards. Would this cause any structural damage or cause it to be weakened and my tank may one day fall through? What about mould? Im just kinda worrying about this. What should I do about this? Thanks in advance. Re: Aquarium on 1st Floor 2Oct 23, 2010 2:18 pm water gets onto t&g board all the time on building sites, no problem as long as it can air out and dry relatively quickly... the only thing I'd be worried about in your situation would be it staying damp way too long which can cause some issues.. how close to the corner is the water damage? if its close (and if you know what you're doing) peel up the corner of carpet, dry it out then relay it... otherwise a hair dryer over the surface of the carpet for quite a few hours may do the trick. Re: Aquarium on 1st Floor 3Oct 23, 2010 2:22 pm Well I would peel back the carpet but the fishtank is too heavy and its right along the wall. So peeling back the carpet wouldnt work. Ive been using a hairdryer and a portable heater since this morning and its still a bit damp. Also used a towel to dry out as much as possible at first. How will I know if there is any water damage. There is also a creaking sound now when I step near it but I cant remember if the creaking was there before though. What kind of issues will I face? Re: Aquarium on 1st Floor 4Oct 23, 2010 2:28 pm the issues you will get if its not dried out is the timber could potentially swell & warp a little around that area as it dries itself out.. could also get a bit of mould from it, but I don't think that would be the case... keep at it with the hair dryer, I'm sure you'll get it dried out..
