Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 12, 2010 8:50 pm We only have electricity for cooking in our house, no mains gas in the street. We'd love to install a gas cooktop and run it off gas bottles. Does anyone know the approx. cost of having gas bottles plumbed to an existing kitchen? Also, does anyone have any idea how much it costs to use gas in this way (ie. how many bottles do you go through per year)? Is it worth the bother? Thanks very much! Re: Gas bottles for cooking 2Jul 12, 2010 8:59 pm I don't know how much to get it plumbed, but we have gas, and in summer we have the stove and hot water system using it, and we go through a bottle every 2-3 months, but like I said, we have hot water on that too, and we have two adults and 3 kids showering and bathing everyday Re: Gas bottles for cooking 3Jul 12, 2010 10:01 pm we have gas cooking here on bottles, we go through a bottle every 6-7 months, they are $70 a year to have the bottles, and about $70 per bottle swap Re: Gas bottles for cooking 4Jul 12, 2010 10:54 pm we are also in sutherland shire using LPG for cooking only. Our 1st bottle lasted 9 months. We're very happy with that & yes it'll cost us about the same to fill up, maybe a tad more. After having had mains gas for years, bottled gas is just as effective for cooking. It cost $350 for plumber but he didn't have to run the pipes very far. Re: Gas bottles for cooking 6Jul 13, 2010 12:19 pm I just called a few gas plumbers to find out what it would cost to fit the gas bottles and install a cook top. Most of them didn't want the job and one guy said that it would cost anywhere between $500 fo $1000! Outrageous. I'll ring a few more places but if it's going to be that expensive I'll stick with electric. Hi we put a gas hob in our place, when we did the new kitchen and it cost us approx $500 for the 12mtr run of gas pipe, and we only use the 9kg gas bottles. We go through about 4 a year, with no rental fee of big bottles. Hope this helps. Oh we're in south brisbane as well. Not sure where you are. Hi Southies, Just wondering if you have any pics on your blog of your gas bottle arrangement. Trying to finalise my houseplans at the moment and we are planning to have gas bottles for our cooktop but I'm not really sure what it will look like. Our plans allow for a 700 x 400mm concrete base slab to accommodate 2 bottles. Re: Gas bottles for cooking 10Oct 13, 2010 2:57 pm I"ve measured the 2 cylinders. Ours are 770mm total width x 440 mm depth from wall & the 2 bottles are 20mm apart. I hope my concrete base will be big enough - when you have a moment could you post the measurement of the concrete base that they each sit on? Unfortunately my gas bottles will be on the wrong side of the house. All the other messy bits (water tank, aircon and hot water system) will be on the other side of the house. I guess I'll have to build some sort of screen to hide it. Re: Gas bottles for cooking 12Oct 13, 2010 6:04 pm nerak, each concrete pad is 450mm x 450mm - the installer must have picked them up from Bunnings because they don't look like pavers. The problem is how close can I build to the gas hot water unit? Will I be able to build around it and be… 0 20224 you need a fridgie to answer but I would think you vac the whole system then add gas if you have a leak, unless it is new install with the gas already loaded, in that case… 1 3656 |
