Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 06, 2010 9:11 am Hi all, Just wondering how many of you go your keys before official handover and if so how many days / weeks before we you able to move in? We are building with Big M - and we should get the keys on 13th December (by my calculations) 16 week build from August 23rd. Do ahve to do a few things after handover but nothing too major - sooner we get the keys the better for us as we are relocating! Re: Did you get your keys before official handover? 3Oct 06, 2010 9:32 am My neighbours are building with a local company and as soon as the house reached lock up they received keys. I'm afraid those of us building with "volume builders" aren't so lucky.... I've not heard of anyone receiving the keys prior to the day of handover. Not sure if you're aware but I've heard that the actual owner's key is slightly longer than the key that all of the tradies get so as soon as that key is used the tradies can no longer get in. Another reason why they'd be unlikely to give you your key prior to handover.
