Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 05, 2010 10:00 am After having our slab laid, we have discovered our front tap and meter is in front of our porch and as we are only 3 1/2 metres from the footpath we have to move our tap and meter, my question is who organises and does this, the builder or do we contact water company after handover? and an approx cost to do this would be helpful as well. Many thanks for any feedback. Site Start: 10th September, 2010 PCI : Friday 27th January, 2011. If this is the case then you'll need to get in contact with the Water company and they won't do anything about it with out a fair cost if the meter is in the correct spot according to the plan. It may depend on who put the meter in. I'm pretty sure that with water, anything house side of the meter is your problem anything street side of the meter is the providers problem. Re: Moving Front Tap question.... 3Oct 05, 2010 11:09 am Thanks for your reply, Yes the tap is with the metre and it probably is where the plans says it should be, we just didnt think about it earlier and now that the slab is there dont like where it is, but if it's going to cost us a packet will probably have to leave it there. Surely someone would have realised there would be a problem with its position..... Double check with your local water authority, but when I was investigating a licensed plumber was able to relocate the water tap and meter a maximum of 60cm without the permission of the water company. If it needs to be relocated any further than this, then you had to apply to the water authority (application cost is about $280 from memory). They then need to retap the supply. It can get costly if the water pipe that they need to tap into is on the other side of the road to where you are building, as this will mean that they have to drill under the road which can be quite expensive. Check and see if moving it 60cm will be sufficient as it will definitely be the cheapest option, and confirm with your local water company. The cost will vary based upon the distance to be moved. For under 3m with my water authority the charge was $275 to move, and $100 to reconnect to your plumbing (the $100 was optional, you can use your own plumber however for portable water, I believe you have to have it reconnected at the same time as they cannot leave a premise without water). Never checked over 3m. If you have recycled water also, the cost is for each meter/tap. (we had both so decided it wasn't worth $750!) So, get in touch with your water authority. They will have a form you fill out and request the meter to be moved X meters to the right or left. If they can move it while still building, you may be able to save the $100 reconnection fee (as plumbing on your side may not be connected yet?!). This would need to be co-ordinated with your builder. Re: Moving Front Tap question.... 7Oct 05, 2010 6:16 pm We disconnected our tap, and dropped the meter into a pit below ground level. It's still visible in our front path, but doesn't stand out anymore... http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac165/aaron4erin/landscapingDSC_1064-2.jpg http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac165/aaron4erin/lscapeDSC_1147.jpg Re: Moving Front Tap question.... 8Oct 06, 2010 8:47 am Thanks buildingwest and sierra, will check out with yarra valley water. Erin thanks for your pic as well, what a great idea, something I would not have thought of. Site Start: 10th September, 2010 PCI : Friday 27th January, 2011. If you want it moved further than that you would have to apply to YVW to have a plugging done and then another tapping. Depending on who does the excavating it will cost beween $179 to $435 for the plugging or $329 up to $1413 for a complete tapping. Re: Moving Front Tap question.... 10Oct 12, 2010 2:00 pm Hi All, Be aware that if you get a plumber to do the move, they will naturally reconnect the water to the house..... YV water do not do this... as we found out. We paid $600 ish ( sorry it was a while ago ) for YVW to move the tap approx 2 meters only to see them leave without reconnecting the supply to our house. Our fault, the reconnection was not mentioned in the paperwork... Allow more $ for this. We did the booking for YVW through Reeces' in South Morang - they can organise all the paperwork, $ etc etc, but you will have to pay when you book and also have a plan of EXACTLY where you want to move the tap to. Good Luck Re: Moving Front Tap question.... 11Oct 12, 2010 4:49 pm ugh my water metre is in the middle of my drive way too! I've already had someone hit it with their car! I don't want to pay to have it moved because I have heard its a lot of money Re: Moving Front Tap question.... 12Oct 18, 2010 11:16 am great advice on here. we will have to get our tap moved as it is where the retaining wall/fence will go. Can't have a meter behind a fence cross fingers we can get away with only moving it 1m to the left. Can't have a meter behind a fence cross fingers we can get away with only moving it 1m to the left. You can but it must be accessable for the meter readers. If not you can apply for a remote meter!! Re: Moving Front Tap question.... 15Nov 18, 2010 9:23 pm Rowena huh? what is a remote meter? Hard to explain. But a remote meter is basically a meter that sends out a digital signal so that the meter reader doesn't have to enter your property. A lot of homes that do not allow accessability from the street traffic would have them (ie, behind gates/walls/units) that will depend on the kitchen bench depth. you'll have to specify it so it allows for both the tap and the sink 1 7392 7 5139 Brass or 2) Stainless steel made - which Kitchen tap is good for drinking.Brass kitchen taps in Australia contain lead… 0 6734 |
