Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 23, 2010 11:07 am Hello everyone, We got our first gas bill recently for 2 months it was $280 approx. Is this the average price for winter for: 2 People Gas Cooktop Gas zoned ducted heating Solor hot water with gas booster Also both of us work 9-5 mon- fri so the heating doesn't get turn on until we get home. We then turn it down to 13 degrees over night but have the heating set to the bedrooms only. Can anyone please share what their approx bill price is for winter? Can you also mention how many people are in your home, and whats on gas etc.... Thanks Re: Winter Gas Bill 2Sep 23, 2010 11:29 am Your bill is lower than ours, and we have a very similar setup. Ours was pushing $350. We turn the heating on say at 6pm, turn it off at midnight when we go to bed. The only difference is we don't have the Solar hot water, we only have Gas Hot water. Re: Winter Gas Bill 3Sep 23, 2010 1:45 pm Yup, similar setup here - 3 in the household . .the heating comes on around 4-6 and goes off around 10-11.. though with the days warming up in recent times..noticed that we have not had to switch it on till much later. and bill was around $370. still painful to pay. Re: Winter Gas Bill 5Sep 23, 2010 3:01 pm Our last two gas bills have been close to $500.00 each, 4 in the house. The heater is set to come on at 6.30 am it turns off when we leave for work/school and turns back on at 4 pm until 11 pm. If our gas bill was $280, I'd be turning cartwheels. Try having five adults/teenagers in the house, all on different schedules, so the heating is on most of the day and evening. Thank goodness for solar hot water... Re: Winter Gas Bill 8Sep 23, 2010 8:34 pm I work a full time day job and have a zoned ducted heating, gas cooker and solar HWS. Ignore the Solar HWS for this time of year - it wouldn't be doing squat and would be running on gas. My gas bill was $220 so I'd say your bill was pretty fair when you include extra showers. I also turn my heater completely off over night 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' In the summer the bill is more like $1 a day so I think its mainly the heating that's responsible. I've come to the conclusion that a 5 star energy rating is rubbish - barely better than what they would have had 30 years ago. Re: Winter Gas Bill 11Sep 24, 2010 10:47 pm yeah we have me and 2 kids here all the time, gas ducted heat, large home, what can I say - I'd love your bill!!! (ours was nearly double yours!) (ours was nearly double yours!) Ditto - except ours WAS double (and maybe even a bit more ) Re: Winter Gas Bill 14Oct 04, 2010 3:55 pm You just have to work it out as a daily rate and think about how much time you spend at home. My Wife recently got stuck into me about leaving lights on and the bills being so high until I pointed out that She's home most of the time now that we have a baby. Comparing our bills when we were a 2 person house VS 3 person our daily rate per person has only gone up by 35%. Say we used to pay $2 a day all up or $1 each per day. We now pay $.90 each per day but She's home for at least 30 hours a week more. Our last bill was $245ish. not sure of number of days but I think it was 2 months and we have gas cooktop, hot water and GDH, but a very small house (10sq/100sqm) Best thing you can do is to check the reading on your meter and make sure they read it, not estimate. Also make sure you don't turn heater over 21° and maybe turn down your hot water. If you have to use cold for everything its too hot. Winter Gas Bill 15Oct 04, 2010 4:12 pm Ours was $300 for 2 adults & 2 kids under 3. Gas cooktop and bonair gas heater gas is also used to heat our water. 4 10824 I want to build a decking to the drawn shape outlined in black. The problem is how close can I build to the gas hot water unit? Will I be able to build around it and be… 0 20233 you need a fridgie to answer but I would think you vac the whole system then add gas if you have a leak, unless it is new install with the gas already loaded, in that case… 1 3663 |
