Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 11, 2010 8:47 pm Hi - we are in design stage and we have decided to use tiles. I can't get out to look at any tile displays etc. and was wondering if there was any style of tile that was maybe a little different. Gave a different look. I am trying to steer away from the 'clinical' look tiles can give. I hate the thought of cleaning grout as well, so can you get tiles with no grout? I know this sounds silly, but i have always been a wood flooring person until I had kids......scratch scratch scratch.... Carpet doesn't mesh well with the kids asthma either.... any tips would be greatly appreciated. Re: Tiles that don't look like tiles..... 4Sep 13, 2010 10:08 pm thanks guys. Yes I am considering polished concrete. Everyone I know who has put it in has had headaches with the installation.... Might just have to bite the bullet. In teams of pricing it is only a little more expensive than tiling but then there are no up keep costs. To get grout sealed it costs about 2K for it to be professionally done and it needs to be done every couple of years. Re: Tiles that don't look like tiles..... 10Sep 14, 2010 5:49 pm I've always loved polished concrete... however have been turned off due to how cold it is in winter. I don't feel its very "homely" even after putting rugs and other things in. In saying that, would like to be swayed back to wanting it. I'm not sure what we're going to have. we did have floorboards- but now they're all being ripped up. We put them in our old home with 4 crazy kids and a huge dog that lived inside and never scratch. Dont go real timber floors as they scratch and dent very easily. BUT I do love the concret floor. It depends on what look you want.
