Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 08, 2010 10:33 am Hi All, Just wondering if any of you guys can share your experiences/thoughts on going on holidays during the build time ? We are in a bit of dilemma at the moment: we have a 3 weeks holidays booked in Oct-Nov but we are kind of stuck 'coz of the build - which is in the frame stage. (yay!!) Question is : Should we go or should we cancel ? Totally confused ! We also have to book in a private inspector but not sure if any inspections can happen in our absence or not provided we give him sufficient authority. Has anyone gone out of state(or country) during their build period ? If yes, then for how long ? If any one could please share their thoughts/insights on if this... that would be great ! Many thanks !! Re: Going on holidays during the build ... please advise !! 2Sep 08, 2010 12:37 pm I guess it depends on your builder and their communication, I was thinking about Karratha, who was fly in fly out (if I'm not mistaken) for the whole build and ended up with a stunning home. So if your builder is good at communicating etc then you shouldn't have any issues. my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Going on holidays during the build ... please advise !! 3Sep 08, 2010 4:13 pm hi there, we are off to bali for 11 days next friday...we are at lockup...so when we leave for bali we will be about 6 weeks from handover...i think its a great idea to take a short break coz it will save you from going insane with the wait! The 1st problem they had was the client went OS without autorising anyone to make payments.....hence he was charged interest. The 2nd problem was they went to connect the gas meter and the gas company has to speak to the owner before installing.....that delayed the handover because they couldn't get the gas meter on. I guess our biggest worry is that something might go wrong over here while we are away and it might bungle up the build So hard to decide ! Re: Going on holidays during the build ... please advise !! 8Sep 09, 2010 4:38 pm My friend went to Africa for (I think) 4 weeks during her build and she didn't have any problems. I believe the house was being bricked at that stage tho so a bit earlier that you are. Maybe talk to your SS and see what they have to say. Have a nice holiday How long is a "long period"?
