Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 08, 2010 9:56 am Hi guys Firstly, can anyone suggest a well-priced tin shed supplier in Melbourne/Victoria? Or are they all generally much the same? Is there anywhere that has a few on display so you can get a feel for size before purchasing? Secondly, can you put large pavers inside or do you have to lay a concrete slab? We need to erect a shed fairly quickly as we have no storage, but, we are not 100% sure on the final resting place so we don't want to pour a concrete slab (at all if we can avoid it). Finally, has anyone had any experience with the SteelChief product? Thanks, Ceebs Re: A few questions about tin garden/storage sheds 2Sep 08, 2010 10:06 am You don't have to lay a slab, but, depending on the size of the shed, you may have to have concrete footings without a slab. When ordering the shed you will need to state whether there will be a slab laid before construction, or not, as there are different engineering specs depending which way it will be built If you are looking for temporary storage have you considered hiring or buying a shipping crate? Re: A few questions about tin garden/storage sheds 3Sep 08, 2010 10:25 am Thanks for the advice Tjilpi. It's not so much temporary storage that we need, it is permanent storage, it's just that we don't know where we want to put the shed for the long term, but need to put one up ASAP so want to be able to move it if we need to. (We have not moved into house yet - and need a place to put garden stuff and bikes etc). Thanks again. Ceebs Re: A few questions about tin garden/storage sheds 4Sep 08, 2010 8:27 pm Yes pavers are OK but what ever you end up buying make sure you peg it down well with long steel rods, or come a windy day it WILL move. Ive seen them blown clear across a yard and ruined, even with junk piled inside. Arfur Re: A few questions about tin garden/storage sheds 5Sep 09, 2010 2:12 pm Fanks Arfur . (I thought the sheds had a lip inside and the pavers sat on top of the lip and held it down, but maybe each shed is different. Will keep that in mind - thanks again). Ceebs Re: A few questions about tin garden/storage sheds 6Sep 09, 2010 8:53 pm B&G sheds in Point Cook have sheds on display- they are just off the freeway on the RHS going towards Geelong. http://www.bgsheds.com.au/ They mostly have big sheds though (single car garage size and bigger) on display. I'm not sure if they have smaller ones as well. We have just a built a 6 x 4m shed with them and we had to pour a slab with 450mm footings. Southern Aurora sheds in Hoppers Crossing also have a display http://www.southernaurorasheds.com.au/ Let me know if you need any more info. Albi Re: A few questions about tin garden/storage sheds 7Sep 10, 2010 9:12 am Hey Ceebs, I have a colourbond steelchief shed - 3x2.26 - since I put it up earlier in the year, no problems. Clearly it's been dynabolted to the ground which has prevented it from flying away. Depending on where you are located - I purchased mine from Shedcraft up in East Keilor. You can pop down there to take a look as well with the various sheds on offer. Good service and good pricing. I can't comment with regards to the foundation / footing, Best to speak with the people in the store regarding your situation mate.
