Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 05, 2010 1:13 pm hey guys to cut a long story short ... reno downstairs, builder bailed after receiving most of the $$. Leaving a few bits not done, and a lot not done properly. Didnt put aggie drain in behind slab, and V Spoon drain under house is not working. We have flooded 3 times. This time bad. Builder changed his business name at least 3 times whilst doing our job. I finally tracked him down at home (after nearly 12 months), he was rude, arrogant and said ' Im bankrupt - take it up with the insurance..'. I have gathered ALL documents, plans, certificates, email correspondence, and photos of damage and am sending it off to CGU tomorrow. We need this fixed ASAP. anyone know how long till someone will come out and look at our claim ? It is flooded now and WILL flood again. This is the last thing we need ontop of our reno upstairs. Re: Home Builders Warranty 5Sep 05, 2010 10:47 pm i have a water damage restoration crew coming first thing in morning. Surely CGU will help us. The builder was covered by insurance, and has gone bankrupt and has refused to fix or finish the job. It has been nearly 2 years now. Re: Home Builders Warranty 7Sep 06, 2010 11:54 am ohno poor you hope CGU covers the damage ************* First time renovator VIC Re: Home Builders Warranty 8Jan 18, 2011 10:58 am @deathgod. Just wondering how's your insurance claim going? We're in similar situation where the builder went into liquidation with the house at fixing stage. The fixing invoice was sent to us 2 weeks before they went under but luckily because of some outstanding issues we declined payment. The builder has not returned phone calls ever since, and eventually had his mobile phone line disconnected. We attempted to finish off the project ourselves as owner builders. First thing we did was to check if quality inspections were up to date. To our amazement, the builder called in frame stage inspection when all the plasterboards have already gone up. Not surprisingly the frame inspection wasn't approved. Because of this we decided to leave the construction to the professionals, but the framing issue has scared off many builders from taking on our job. Now we're going through building insurance who has supplied a list of builders specialising in handling cases like ours. It's been 3 months now and counting. Re: Home Builders Warranty 9Jan 24, 2011 9:10 am Sorry to hear about your problems...we've just gone thru 12 months of the same with most of that time taken up by CGU....very long story but they'll try everything in the book to NOT come to the party so keep at them as much as possible, don't let up. We finally "won" against them but it put us out of pocket to start with. Our builder was classed solvent even though his company had gone belly up, CGU's excuse was that he was still registered!!! (We have over 20 to 30 documented ****** & mis-truths from CGU trying to worm their way out). If you need any help etc please don't hesitate in replying as we do have some contacts that are of a great help (check the link for one of them, presume your in Vic?) www.consumerscollective.net Also found that HIA are useless and unhelpful along with Building Practioners Board and Consumer Affairs although we did get a Building Commission Inspection done at no cost which CGU promptly refuted with their own "independent" inspector (Building Commission told us over the phone that they relied on the builders own integrity to come and fix any problems!!!). Good Luck and once again if you need help just contact us Cheers!!! Hi All, we are starting to think of building with Masterpiece Builders in Victoria, has anyone had any feedback or experience with them 0 13588 1 7941 We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for “pre-wiring” so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds. That’s why we… 5 16275 |
