Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 03, 2010 5:11 pm do most peeps get this ? the reno seems to take forever, living amongst dust and crap stuffups and screwups along the way tradies screwing up thinking each job will beset with 'problems' watching the cost sky rocket thinking the end will never come .............. guess i should better suck it up Re: reno blues 2Sep 03, 2010 7:08 pm Nope, we get the reno blues in our household too. Normally towards the end of a project, which results in said project being abandoned. The husband tells me it will all be worth it in the end, but then we plan to move, so I think someone else will be reaping the reward from my work! Re: reno blues 3Sep 03, 2010 7:12 pm You'll make it evenually deathgod. One day it will all be done and you'll be looking around for the next thing. I can't talk because we spent 10 years renovating our house to make it suitable along the way and ended up knocking it down and building www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: reno blues 4Sep 03, 2010 8:23 pm I've oftentimes felt the same except we are building from scratch and haven't even started actual build yet....... I try to recite my new mantra when I get too worried............It'll all be worth it in the end It'll all be worth it in the end It'll all be worth it in the end...Now repeat after me........ Re: reno blues 5Sep 03, 2010 9:04 pm For me it's been the design and planning stage that I thought was never going to end and which I found very frustrating. The actual renovating part is great! I actually get to see where my money is going and enjoy looking at the progress. We're drama free so far so ask me again when we have a few problems.. Renovation Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=38489 Re: reno blues 6Sep 04, 2010 9:39 am I know how you feel too! I didnt have to live through ours thankfully But the last 2 weeks living amongst the dust and with a stream of tradies fixing little things is driving me mad All without a proper shower as the screens were delayed Not being able to unpack properly or put furniture against walls as we are waiting for painter to clean up his messy gap filling Truly torturous To make myself feel better I read through other peoples builds and then it all seems almost trivial! Good luck with getting it finished ( in my case red wine helps too) ************* First time renovator VIC Re: reno blues 7Sep 04, 2010 9:51 am Yep, deathgod, it happens to all of us. After 5 past renos, I have just gone through the reno from HELL. Everything that could possibly go wrong did - except for the carpet laying. no joke. That's a lot of stuff ups & money down the proverbial. Just expect that things will not go according to plan; then you'll stop struggling against it. Nothing to do but think of it as a test of character. You won't be beaten! Re: reno blues 9Oct 01, 2010 1:39 am I don't know why we r expected to put up & tolerate so much stuff ups when it comes to buildings/renos. Why should australians pay so much for such crappy quality which would not be tolerated in most develped or developing world? We're not even near the building stage as we're on our third architect(about to sack again), yet to start tender drawings, working on a S96 becoz the second architect stuffed up,,,,, after 20months & $40k later!!(just on architect fees) And all these architects came highly recommended!!!!!!!! Just to clarify how simple our actual project is, it took council 2months to DA approve over the Xmas period. Re: reno blues 10Oct 01, 2010 10:25 am Yep. Had them a few weeks ago. Half way through the reno and it didn't seem to be coming together. One week later and I got a renewed energy. I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's the unexpected hiccups that get to me. Floors getting sanded as I type. Carpet in on Tuesday. Yeehah!!!
