Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 02, 2010 4:43 pm Six weeks ago we had our selections interview with our builder. We had received our first approval from council but were still waiting for final council approval. We chose to upgrade quite a few things and 4 weeks ago I had heard nothing since our meeting so I emailed them with a few things I was concerned about and just asking what was happening. After a week of no response I emailed them again quite annoyed and distressed as my concerns were about our council approval conditions, so finally they responded, but most of the things we had asked to upgrade we still did not have prices for. About a week after this we received final council approval. Here we are 6 weeks after the selections interview and I still dont know what most of our upgrades are costing. We have council approval, but cannot get finance approval as we dont know how much we need to ask for yet! We signed up in January and I cannot believe that more than 7 months later we still don't even have a slab in sight anytime soon. I sent my last email to them on Monday and here we are it is thursday and not even an acknowledgement of my email. Is this normal? What ever happened to the basic business principal of customer service?!! I cannot believe I am still waiting waiting waiting!!!!! Am I being unreasonable or is this ridiculous? how long did it take to get upgrade prices for everyone else? Re: Do I have a right to be annoyed? Upgrade prices delay.. 2Sep 02, 2010 4:52 pm You are not being unreasonable, give them a call and tell them that if you dont have what you want by the middle of next week that you are quite prepared to loose your deposit and go elsewhere. I ended up saying this to my builder and funnily enough things started to move quite quickly after that. There is absolutely no reason that it should take so long for them to get some upgrade prices to you. V Re: Do I have a right to be annoyed? Upgrade prices delay.. 3Sep 02, 2010 5:04 pm Thanks for responding V.. I am actually so annoyed about it all I am more than prepared to lose my deposit and 12 months in the building process and just tell them to stick it and I will go elsewhere!! I always have this regret in my mind that I didnt at least speak to a certain other builder (that gets raves on here you probably know who I mean, starts with a D!) when I initially spoke to these guys. But my sales person was awesome so I didnt feel the need. They have already said that when they have everything and need me to get finance sorted I will need to make sure it happens really quickly. Ummm yeah ok!!!! I hate that awkwardness after a confrontation like that though, and I know they will say "you changed your kitchen colours 5 times"... thing is, i had so much time to reconsider my kitchen colours, of course I changed my mind. If i hadve had a chance to sign off anything it would cost me a fee each time and I wouldnt have done that. Thank you for responding at least I know if I do crack a gasket, someone thinks it is justified! lol Re: Do I have a right to be annoyed? I suggest you just put everything in writting expressing your dissatisfaction. Good luck. Building at Sierra Estate. Re: Do I have a right to be annoyed? Tell them you will go elsewhere if they dont pull the finger out ! Re: Do I have a right to be annoyed? Upgrade prices delay.. 7Sep 03, 2010 2:12 pm how frustrating If they are treating you like this when you are only at selection stage, it's not a good sign of things to come. After my colour selection, I received my quote for the extra stuff the next day! Call them (then email), it's usually the customer that yells the loudest that gets the attention. Another idea maybe to call the sales person, I know it's past his responsibility, but like any good sales person, after sales service is just as important to them as before sales. good luck!! cheers jim Re: Do I have a right to be annoyed? Upgrade prices delay.. 8Sep 03, 2010 2:57 pm hmm I'd be really upset over this, what a joke! I had a lot of issues with my company before the build while still in contract stage, HEAPS of issues! but then when the build started they were really good! I yelled at them so much beforehand that I ended up working with a manager through most of my build. It was good. but anyway, I hope you get this sorted out first, then hopefully your actual build goes smoothly Re: Do I have a right to be annoyed? Upgrade prices delay.. 9Sep 03, 2010 3:44 pm Thanks very much everyone for your responses. It is reassuring to know that my expectations are not unrealistic. I have always worked in customer service and if I didnt have a response for someone straight away I would at least respond to an email and say "thanks for your email I will get back to you soon"... but instead I just get nothing. Our builder is not a budget builder and we are not building a small budget house either so I am a little miffed as I wouldve thought customer service was a part of what we are paying for. I actually ran into the salesperson at a display home about a month ago and he was with a client and asked how it was going and i said i had a couple of issues and he told me he would call me the next day (mustve looked impressive to the client) but of course no phone call to me the next day - or any day 4 weeks later! So whilst I thought that may have been an option to call him at a time of need (as he was fantastic and the reason we signed with the company) that has gone out the window. I have sent an email to my "contact person" there and have said that I will be seeking legal action about cancelling our contract if we dont have all the prices by the end of next week. That would be 7 weeks - almost 2 months - after our visit. I am hoping the build will be better than the pre-build thats for sure!! Thanks again everyone Re: Do I have a right to be annoyed? Upgrade prices delay.. 10Sep 03, 2010 8:30 pm Lee, I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I'm not sure if you were around when we got our contract quote and we nearly had a heart attack. We considered jumping ship then and that was 6 months after the initial work agreement was signed. We hated the thought of walking away. We got quotes from other builders but decided to stay with our builder. We now have a slab but I wouldn't go through all the BS of prices, waiting, waiting and more waiting. It was awful. Hope things sort out for you soon. Handover February 2011 Happy with our home Tradie may sit at home but will need to get house plastered as well or will you sit it out? 6 9970 Hi, My home construction is complete, and the handover is scheduled next week.
