Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 30, 2010 10:50 am Does anyone have any advice on pools or pool prices? We were originally looking at getting a 5x3mtr fibreglass pool which was quoted as being around $25,000 - $28,000. We then decided to go with a smaller pool (3x2mtrs) but are still being quoted around $25,000! We have gotten quotes from several companies and they are all roughly the same. I don't understand why the price isn't reflected in the size of the pool. Smaller pool = smaller pump, less water, less escavation, less labour. Help! Re: Pool price confusion! 2Aug 30, 2010 12:44 pm Hi anjele, We are having a small 3mx7m lap pool installed after handover - not fiberglass but concrete. Our Price to shell (becasue we are getting someone else to finish it with a better quality finish, pump filter etc $15K) Its our luck i guess we have someone in the business to finish it off and obtain and give advise for the best pumps and filters - so our price will be $20K in total. Can I ask is your pool above ground or inground? and why you have gone with fibreglass? - reason for asking is that if a concrete pool is an option maybe you can get some quotes and compare the prices. I shopped around also and got a lot of quotes - I then asked each company to match the cheapest quote I received - some came to the party, some didnt... then made my decision from there Re: Pool price confusion! 3Aug 30, 2010 2:02 pm Hi Potsville! Thanks for your reply. Sorry, should have mentioned that it's an inground pool! We decided to go with fibreglass because there is a lot of ground movement in our area and I'm paranoid about a concrete pool cracking in the future. (Our 3 year old house has had massive movement, but that's a whole other post!) Plus we were told that concrete pools are more expensive than fibreglass (and price is a big factor for us too). I think your suggestion of price matching is a good one. I'm even considering a large stylish pond that will pass as a dipping pool at this stage! Re: Pool price confusion! 4Aug 30, 2010 2:57 pm I see.... well probably a good move if you have alot of ground movement and the house has already had movement. You have nothing to lose if you ask them to price match... Good luck Re: Pool price confusion! 5Aug 30, 2010 5:52 pm I hated getting quotes for our pool. So confusing. We went concrete and were replacing a VERY old inground pool. We though it would be cheaper as the hole was there but NO!. Actually we ended up making it 3M shorter and a bit narrower as it was way too big. Make sure you compare prices VERY carefully. Some include border tiles, row of tiles around the edge (check the widths too). Some don't include anything. Check the extra costs for extra supports etc. This can blow out thousands of dollars. Ask for references you can visit and look at. Blue Haven made a hasty retreat when we asked for references. Guy said he was only new to our area and didn't have customers here. We said we'd travel anywhere in Sydney. Never heard back. They were promising fixed price guarantee but I don't think it's worth the paper it's written on. Re: Pool price confusion! 6Aug 30, 2010 6:55 pm My advise as we have just had an inground fibreglass pool installed .... try and get them locked in to an accurate as they can site works costs .. including removing the fill. Ours was a total blowout and left a very sour tast in our mouth as we felt we were being ripped off. Before the guy got off his truck he had worked out was going to cost us $8 thousand ... got it down to $5600 in the end ... the pool was being delivered at noon, and the hole had to be dug and as pointed out by the hole digger/bobcat driver ... it's in our contract about plus site costs .. but no amount is quoted. Ours was clay soil and they said they could not use it as fill, so we had to pay for the removal and tip costs. I won't go in to too much more details, but bottom line ... try and get a good idea of site costs, even have a cut-off amount clause if that is possible. Good luck. I'm not surprised, the expense of not removing 6mts of soil and a little less fibreglass would only be about a grand or so. The contractor is likely quoting labour on per job, both sizes would take the same amount of days to install. Ask for a breakdown of the costs for each pool and how long it will take. Re: Pool price confusion! 8Aug 31, 2010 7:52 am Thank you to everyone who offerred advice. It's much appreciated. If we proceed I will definitely get a breakdown of all costs involved, plus get them to commit to a final quote. Hi All, see above image. The required setback from the rear boundary in my case is 5m, as you can see the shape of the site and location of the boundary is slightly… 0 8451 Wow I hadn't realised things had gotten that pricey in just a couple of years since I built, that is crazy with how much land is now costing if you aren't lucky enough to… 3 7124 Hi, you've probably already resolved this, however, Commbank will probably pay the funds to you after you send evidence the work is done regardless the change in the quotes. 1 35326 |
