Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 22, 2010 7:14 pm I have a 1910 bungalow, which is pretty much in original nick. There a number of power points in the home where the wiring is obviously coming down from the ceiling in a tube of sorts, which has been attached to the wall. You can see the tube, its on the surface of the wall, so it hasn't been chased into the wall and plastered over to hide it. Now what I'm wondering, since we're talking solid stone walls here and for much of the house, cement floors, which we intend to put floating floorboards over, what is the best way to add more power points? Do I bring the wires down from the ceiling, in the corners of the room and run them along the skirting boards? I saw that in one 1890s farmhouse about 6 months ago. Do I chase the walls and embed the wires into the walls, plastering over them, so you can't see the tubes with the wires in them? That's dirty, expensive work I'm assuming? Is there another way? I'm trying to find a solution that is not too expensive, but not a quick and dirty job either. Any ideas? Chasing the wall would be the best way otherwise the exposed wiring looks ugly although old houses do have external pipes so it is your call. Just call few sparkies to give you a quote I do not know where you live but quotes vary a lot from tradie to tradie Re: What is the best way to add power points to a period hom 3Aug 23, 2010 7:17 pm No, I'm not a sparky. My brother is, but chasing walls would not be his thing. My concern in doing that myself, like anyone I suppose, is completely stuffing that up and buggering the wall. Obviously running wires down from the ceiling in the corners of the room and then putting them behind the skirting boards is the easiest, but as you say, could look unsightly if not disguised well. I suppose I will just have to bring in some sparkies and see what they say... 4 9060 I have stone pavement (?) in my backyard around the pool.
