Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 20, 2010 10:57 pm Hi there. I am just wondering if anyone is able to be of assistance. We currently have a 1920's sandstone fronted bungalow that we are renovating. Most of our renovations thus far are not 100% traditional for a bungalow of this era and whilst we are trying to maintain a small portion of its originality, we are also choosing an extremely modern extension. My husband has decided on the following colour schemes for the exterior, and I am wondering if anyone in the industry can offer their advice, and/or opinions. Please be aware that our sandstone out the front does have a hint of cream however we are doing our upmost to avoid a completely 'cream' home as it is our least favourite colour. We currently are having our home re-roofed, in 'surfmist'. We are thinking of having 'monument' as the gutters and as we are having a carport built along side, we are having 'surfmist' for the roller door also. We are building a tall front fence, consisting of pillars and steel work and using the same sandstone pavers as the front of our bungalow as a base of this fence. We have had neighbour friendly fencing around our property and this has been done in 'colorbond - grey ridge'. We are hoping to have the window frames done in a black colour, (or anything else suggested) as will be our front door and fly screen door. We are intending to paint the other woodwork out the front, carport poles and facias in a light colour that will compliment all the above mentioned colours. We will also be rendering our red brick down the side of the house in this colour, and proceed to use it in our extension. Any suggestions please? We are hoping for a light colour, not white, nor cream but something that will accommodate our above recommendations. And something that looks nice with a sandstone paver. Anyway, I appreciate this might all sound too confusing but as we have never experienced renovations before, would appreciate any advice on offer. Kindest regards, Kate. Re: Exterior Colour Scheme for 1920 Sandstone Bungalow... 4Aug 23, 2010 10:23 am Thank you for your advice. We are probably hoping to go more of a lighter colour. Our sandstone has quite a bit of yellow and creamish tones through it so am hoping to border it with something nice and light to bring out the lighter tones rather than these yellowish tones. I will try and upload a photo to aid with any further suggestions anyone might have. Thank you so much. Re: Exterior Colour Scheme for 1920 Sandstone Bungalow... 5Aug 24, 2010 10:15 am Hoping the attached images works. This is a picture from a few years ago as the work mentioned above is taking progress as we speak. A new carport is to be built along side to replace the previous one, (same pitch as roof and so on) new fencing, front fence and side fences, a possible render to each side of the house (colour undetermined) and a dark rustic paver for the driveway. As mentioned, we are trying to steer clear of the creams. Please refer to first post for suggested colour schemes and any advice or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Re: Exterior Colour Scheme for 1920 Sandstone Bungalow... 6Aug 24, 2010 1:07 pm Hi Kate, Your house and extension is extremely similar to what we are doing. We have a 1925 sandstone bungalow but it is painted over as it is not an ornate sandstone but rather large blocks. Currently the roof is red, but we are reroofing in woodland grey and with monument gutters. The fencing in our back yard will be all woodland grey, as is our new shed. We have also put in a pool which will have sandstone pavers and we hope to match the render of the new extension with the pavers and then re-render/paint the front of the house. The front door will be black on the outside and a new black screen door. With regard to windows, only the front windows will remain wood and are cream on the outside and off-white inside. There are two windows being replaced in the existing part of the house and we have replaced them with off-white aluminium double hung windows. We went with this colour as being aluminium (due to weather) you get the same colour on the inside and as they are bedroom windows, we thought that colour would be best. Also matches the outside fine too. When it came to the windows for the new extension, we have gone with large single glasspane doors and windows (awning) in natural aluminium. We know it means different windows from the outside, but even though we are trying to match in the extension with the old part of the house, we are not trying to hide that it is modern either! So yours sounds very similar - so obviously VERY NICE!!! Good luck! Cheers Jane I had 28m2 of engineered pavers laid six months back and it was difficult to find someone not taking the pi$$.
