Crappy temporary steps I made at the rear door. Temporary meaning 2 years old.....

Concrete pads poured for deck posts. I used bolt down stirrups as I figured the kids would trip over concreted in stuff in the meantime. And you can move the stirrups around on the concrete pad to suit.

Old steps removed and a few barrow loads of soil removed to make room for bearers. Posts starting to go in.

Frame for deck started. Joists run underneath door sill and tie in to house joists. This way the floor outside and inside are about the same height. And it's very solid.

Front view. Slowly getting there.

Finally both steps framed and ready for deck boards.

First of the decking boards laid down using Dek Ties. Doesn't look too bad so far.

Top level done.

First step and backing (?) done. Second step and 2 backings to be done *sighs*

Things I've noted thus far.
Old hardwood was made by the devil. It splits so most of the connections are nailed and (predrilled then) screwed. But it was realllllly cheap (from my old garage)
Dek ties look lovely but are very time consuming to put in. Not having ever nailed a deck down, I cant tell you if it's more or less labour intensive, but I do know you get covered in sawdust from cutting the slots for the Dek ties to sit in.
To be continued......
