Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 19, 2010 12:45 am Morning all, just wondering since we've changed our mind from a tiled splash back to glass and we haven't even picked a colour yet, I'm not sure if we will be able to have it installed before the scheduled completion date of the house, in three weeks. We've already waited 9 months from start to finish and I'm hanging just to move in. I was told that you were required to have some sort of splash back etc before you can obtain a cert of occupancy. SOO... My dad also mentioned that you can temporarily use cement sheeting, which will pass the cert of occupancy requirements, as he did when they were building there house 20 years ago, which would buy us some time so at least we don't have to rush into getting the right colour. Has anyone had similar experiences with this or can point my in the right direction? It seems reasonable. Cheers Re: Temporary splash back to get cert of occupancy?? 2Aug 19, 2010 10:10 am We're in WA so the rules are no doubt different, to the point that I don't remember having to get a cert of occupancy, but, when we moved in here 8 years ago we had no splashback, for about 9 months Not sure if this helps or not my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Temporary splash back to get cert of occupancy?? 3Aug 19, 2010 10:59 am Having water proofing (the whole point of having spalsh back) is part of the occupancy checks. A cement sheet, propoerly water-proofed, should do it in theory. Having said this, can I ask why you changed form tile to glass? I trust offcourse that you have read up on both tile versus glass spalashbacks. Glass is notorious for showing blotches and smudges and you need to spend inordinate amounts of time just toget it to an accpetable level of finish. Tile on the other hand.... Glass makes the kitchen look very industrial in nature, tile has a warmth that cannot be replicated by glass.
