Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 16, 2010 5:22 pm Hi All, In the process of planning our new home - first home owners! There are a couple of houses we like, and have been given quotes with a few added extras. What are the 'rules' on negotiating the price with builders like Simonds, Burbank etc. Would love some advice! Thanks Re: Negotiating Quote Price 3Aug 16, 2010 6:37 pm Hi there vjs, welcome to homeone There really are no specific rules as such, what I found with looking at various builders, most have packages of extras for free or for a small price on top of your base price, depends what extras you really need. Just basically all give and take really and don't be afraid to ask if they are willing to throw something in for you, the worse thay can say is no. Good luck Dear J.K. Sincerely, Anonymous Re: Negotiating Quote Price 4Oct 26, 2010 5:25 pm Has anybody had any history of actually negotiating prices down? The base building costs are one thing, but also on items like downlights which some quote at $80 a point which is way over the odds. I would like to think there is haggle in everything especially when you are spending over $400K but some of the builders we have spoken to are just not flexible. Re: Negotiating Quote Price 5Oct 26, 2010 6:42 pm I'm going to give it a good go! Still waiting on our tender letter at the moment, but when it arrives I'm going to see what I can negotiate ... no harm in asking, all they can do is say no. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Negotiating Quote Price 6Oct 26, 2010 8:48 pm In our experience, you have more chance negotiating on the land than house/extras. We negotiated $5k off our land, and exactly $0.00 on anything through the builder. Obviously worth a shot however and hope you have more luck than us! hey there! π so, itβs kinda common for standard drawer depths to be around 500mm since most cabinets use this size to fit the usual runners… 3 20906 I was being kind to the builder. With the amount charged for the upgrade the builder is probably charging closer to 100% margin.
