Does anyone know if the standard bricks that your builder uses for walls are suitable for a open fireplace? My bricks are made by Selkirk, and have 3 large holes formed into them. My thinking is that these holes will create air pockets that under heat may expand and cause cracks or at worst possibly explode! Looking forwards to opinions. Any ideas if you had one or 2 layers of solid bricks and then 1 layer of face bricks (with holes) on the outside would work? Or would the heat still be a problem. Probably should email the brick company. Some people don't have time to do the job right the first time, but seem to have plenty of time to fix their mistakes. We have normal face bricks on the outside wall, and internally there are solid bricks which are made particularly for fireplaces - heat retention or something. Not sure how many layers of fire bricks there are though Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Our Crazy Owner Builder Journey! Hi all, My first post, we are building a house and can’t decide the layout of the lounge room. We have a large N/W facing window and are wanting to have a wood slow… 0 13728 No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11586 I would probably render it and then paint it as per your other advice, or gyrpock over the top. 1 3340 |
