Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 02, 2010 8:43 pm Hi, We are currently trying to work out the best ideas in regard to the renovation of our house and this site has been an invaluable source!! Currently our houseplan: http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/3681 ... seplan.jpg With only a couple walls & few doors moved/added we would have this plan: http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/6743 ... seplan.png The house's current openplan dining/family is small and has a bathrm coming off it (not ideal). The new plan creates a huge area and bathrm turns into laundry. The front formal lounge (never used) becomes master with an ensuite. Love anyones suggestions on whether this is a good or bad idea? We lose a living area, although gain a much bigger back living area. The back wall could be retained then there would still be two living areas (next to each other) Thanks for reading! Re: Converting formal lounge to master bedrm???? Houseplan p 2Aug 02, 2010 9:30 pm We're doing a similar thing. Turning the house around so the living space is out the back and the beds in the front. We think it makes sense if we live in it long enough to justify the costs of replumbing the bathroom n kitchen. What did you use to make the plans? Re: Converting formal lounge to master bedrm???? Houseplan p 3Aug 02, 2010 9:36 pm Isthome - how many living rooms, bedrms and bathrms will you have? I used PlanningWiz to create the plans. Free and very easy to use. Houseplan p 5Aug 02, 2010 10:27 pm Yeah agreed - it makes sense to have it the new way! Looks lovely on paper - if you're concerned with the living areas - i guess you could use a cube bookshelf as a room divider with some funky ornaments in it! I had an open plan lounge/dining with no doors to hallway or family room. I put in doors at either end and a separating wall between them. now I have a study and a rumpus room. My games room has become my lounge and dining is in one end of the family room. I think it is much better and certainly lowers the noise level Re: Converting formal lounge to master bedrm???? Houseplan p 7Aug 04, 2010 2:57 pm Thank you for all your great replies. Have started getting quotes for work (converting formal lounge to master bedrm). The fitting out of the ensuite might have to wait awhile - the family bathroom needs redoing first!
