Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 30, 2010 3:13 pm Currently our 4.2m * 4.2m lounge room has very little wall space. One wall has double sliding doors, opposite this is a big window, and the other 2 walls have another big window and and an opening into the dining room next door. We are going to do a little construcion /renovation to improve this. The plan I like has the current sliding doors being plastered in to give one solid wall. We would then replace the window on the east side with double french doors leading out onto a verandah. For furniture placement it would be better in the doors were off centre. However, OH insists they MUST be centred in the wall. He asked what houses I had ever seen with windows or double doors which weren't centred in the wall. I couldn't think of any. So my (long winded) question is, does anyone have doors that aren't centred and do people think they would look ok? Or would it always annoy us? Re: Door placement question 3Jul 31, 2010 7:39 am A way for it to not look offcentre is to balance the french doors with a window as well, so you have both the doors and the window on same wall. The window will not impact upon furniture placement but allows you to move the doors to the side as the space between doors and window would now be in the centre. I have seen it done re: offcentred doors and they can look weird by themselves. Then again, they can also look fine. You just don't know until you are finished. If you've got a couch/bookcase/tv cabinet/etc along that wall, then I don't think having them off centre would be a problem. Re: Door placement question 5Aug 05, 2010 8:35 pm Thanks. I tried to do a picture with paint.....but I am officially useless and couldn't do it If it helps, the South wall would be totally filled in, the West wall has an opening approximately 1.7mtr wide, the North wall has windows down it and the East wall would have the doors in question There would be a couch or lounge chairs along the North wall and up the East / West walls a little. We have a large N/W facing window and are wanting to have a wood slow… 0 13724 Black on light wood does look good. Not sure if it will be as long lasting as a steel finish? 6 6352 |
