Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 20, 2010 10:14 am Hello everyone, Hope you're all well. I was hoping ome expert out there could point me in the right direction. Does anyone know how to relocate screws in wood, but only slightly? The new hole would actually the overlapping the old slighlty. Some back-story : We're fitting some new interior doors and have found that the new ones are slightly deeper than the old, which I used as a template for the hinge cutout and drilling screw holes. The holes are now 1-2mm off where they need to be. The new door doesn't quite close, and it seems I need to move the hinges on the door (not the frame) by about 1-2mm., conflicting with the current holes. Has anyone ever had any luck with relocating holes just a bit? Thanks - L Re: How to relocate screws "slightly" in wood (door) 2Jul 20, 2010 12:00 pm Try using matches with woodglue, what I do is dip a match into wood glue and then poke the matches into thhole and snap the match off. Depending on the size of the hole you may need to poke more than one in. Once the glue has dried usually in around 12hrs you then will have to pre drill new holes and Bob's youre uncle... I've rad about this but thought it was really only for 'filling' an overly large hole a bit - never thought of using that approach for this. On the other hand, find some larger dowel and make the hole bigger. That way the screw for the door is screwed in to it's own new hole in the dowel, no overlap. The hole needs to be smaller than the dowel, so it will be an interference fit. Glue the dowel in and you'll be right.
