On the other hand, find some larger dowel and make the hole bigger. That way the screw for the door is screwed in to it's own new hole in the dowel, no overlap. The hole needs to be smaller than the dowel, so it will be an interference fit. Glue the dowel in and you'll be right. Our relationship with the owner is good, but I'm not sure if I want to impose putting a pole on their property. Your conversation with your neighbour must have gone well… 4 9301 Sam There is a much stronger glue than liquid nails. It's called T Rex and will stick your timber to the concrete.
