Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 16, 2010 2:51 pm Hi, Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts as to who to use to obtain a "blueprint" for a 5-7 yr renovation plan. Am concerned that: a. Architects are on a different page to our renovation budget (20-30k every 2nd year) b. Builders won't get any stage 1 work (as we are getting the kitchen done first), hence will be reluctant to put any work in. The problem that we also have is that the house is a slight V shape and the apex of the V contains the front door, entrance and kitchen, so before starting work on the kitchen we want to be sure that any interior walls moves (required to improve the kitchen layout) are done. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Re: Where To Start - 5yr Low Cost - Renovation Blueprint 2Jul 16, 2010 3:05 pm From experience the word low cost and renovation are very hard to put in the same sentence. Any renovation, has extra bits and pieces that pop up along the way. You will also be hard pressed to do what you are looking at doing without the input of an architect. Our renovation is also planned in stages, we have certain things done that can allow for more development later. Such as building under the house and also for putting in a carport and what not. A draftsperson may be able to help you, may. If you manage to get a builder that can do all of the stages good luck. It's a big undertaking you are about to embark upon. Re: Where To Start - 5yr Low Cost - Renovation Blueprint 3Jul 16, 2010 7:07 pm I just sucked it up and had to wait and save for the 5 years before I started my renovation. I would have liked to have bits of it earlier but the logistics were all too difficult as Nathan has indicated. Can you not wait and do it all at once? Stage 2 - Deck (which will need replacing a set of large windows with sliding / bi-fold doors). Stage 3 - Bathrooms The blueprint that we were after was something which would make sure that stage 1 gave the most effective internal use of space and also gave us a feel for what stage 1 and 3 might cost.
