Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 15, 2010 8:12 pm Hello guys I am hoping that someone can urgently reply to my query regarding external taps as my bricklayers are due to commence bricklaying tomorrow. I realised today that an external tap is affixed unusually high on the house (at about 1 metre). My building plans do not stipulate the height of the external taps, just their location on the house perimeter. I wanted to know if there was a regulation stating how high from the ground or slab an external tap should be affixed to a house. I am probably being a tad picky but you should know that this particular tap is visible from the street and the surrounding brickwork is to be rendered a light colour, making it even more noticeable! I am in Melbourne. Thanks in advance, Michael Re: Regulation height of external taps- urgent reply sought 3Jul 16, 2010 10:58 am Or hide it behind plants or a screen.... Re: Regulation height of external taps- urgent reply sought 4Jul 16, 2010 9:17 pm Hi, Sorry that i'm probably too late with this info, however i'm pretty sure the plumbing standards state external taps have to be a minimum of 450mm above ground level.Dont believe there is a maximum. This is off the top of my head, could check my standards for you if this is still an issue, regards, Vaughn Re: Regulation height of external taps- urgent reply sought 5Jul 17, 2010 9:43 am In the 2 houses I've built so far, both were between 1000mm and 1200mm off slab - I presume that this was so that they were able to be turned on without bending over. We never specified the height on the plans; just left it up to the Builders/Plumbers discretion. Re: Regulation height of external taps- urgent reply sought 6Jul 17, 2010 8:30 pm Thanks for the responses. I knew it was a bit of a long shot but I figured the BCA might have some guidelines on the matter as it seems to for everything else (and that someone might know what they were as I don’t have access to the BCA and couldn’t find anything online). Anyway, I actually went to the site that evening and unhooked the water line running to the offending tap from the roof trusses it was attached to. With the resulting slack I was able to remove the tap and mount it lower thus solving my problem! Cheers, Michael Re: Regulation height of external taps- urgent reply sought 7Jul 26, 2010 12:44 pm If the customer has so specified height, we normally fit them at a comfortable enogh height to turn and also so that at least one can fit a bucket under, so 450mm to 1200mm is about right. Bathroom renovation will likely include a back-to-corner bath and we’re considering a freestanding tap with hand-held shower such as the picture included.
