Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 16, 2007 1:30 pm Hello, has anyone else used Wayne from Precision Doors & Blinds Pty Ltd? He said to us he has done other jobs/quotes within our area (Tarneit Vic). He has taken a fair bit of money from us for a security door and custom made venetian blinds.
He was supposed to turn up yesterday to start and complete the job. He cannot now be contacted and I think we have been had. I will give him the benefit of the doubt until the end of the day before I take it any further. I have visited his 'factory' in a backyard Hoppers Crossing and the resident does not know where he is, but claims all his stuff is still there. This could all be a case of very poor communication. If you know this bloke and had/having problems send me a PM and together we will go to the police! I have already received some advice from the Police without giving them specifics. If I have it all wrong I will post back, but if I don’t will post back with a lot more detail on what a sucker I am. Regards Re: Precision Doors & Blinds Pty Ltd (Wayne), trouble too? 2Sep 21, 2007 12:42 pm Ok, at this stage I am still having trouble working out if this bloke has just bad business management/communication or is taking me for a complete ride. After talking to Police it was pretty clear that this will probably only ever stay as a Civil matter.
Here is the story: 26 August we get a quote done for a security door and custom made Venetian blinds. We are told that we can get a security door cheap as a bloke had ordered it previously and cancelled. This door was taking up space in his workshop and he wanted to clear it. Luckily for us, it was a design we had looked at elsewhere and the price being offered was $200 cheaper than quoted by someone else. We were also told that we can have window coverings made as he does “the selling, measure and quote, manufacture and installation. I don’t let anyone else touch my blinds.” We chose to have two Venetian’s and one Holland made up as the rest of the house we are making our own curtains. During the visit to our house to quote, we were offered some very friendly advice on how to make our curtains look better and this was appreciated. I was quite impressed with the offer of advice. I was told that by the end of the week everything would be made up and installed. He asked me for a deposit, but I had absolutely no cash that day. After arranging the job on the Sunday, we went back on the following Wednesday to change our mind on the Holland blind (but had let him know on the Monday). There were no problems and I paid a small deposit. After the end of the week, came and asked for another $200 deposit to make it 50% to cover his costs with getting the security door powder coated. This seemed fair to me so I paid it. During the next week, I called a couple of times and was told that the door was delayed at the powder coaters. I then got a call back middle of last week and told that the door would be ready Friday (14th Sep). He then said that the blinds would be ready and would come to our house on 15th to do the whole job. He then said that he was short of cash to cover his costs and was owed $3,000 by another customer. He asked for the balance owing and said that he would not give us any trouble. When telling me this I could hear the embarrassment in his voice and I felt sorry for him. Guess what? I paid him despite my wife saying it was not right Come the appointment time Saturday he did not show up and his phone was off. As I said earlier I tried all weekend to chase him up. Got hold of him Monday and he told me he had lots of dramas over the weekend and could not get in touch with me. He then said that the blinds were not ready as the company making them up hadn’t finished. He confirmed that he could do them this Wednesday. On calling to confirm Wednesday morning he said he had car trouble and changed to today. I called him today, and was told that he is still having car troubles and that the blinds were not ready. I said, what about your comments about making all yourself? He then told me that some parts were made elsewhere. Told me that he would borrow a mate’s car and come this weekend to put the door in. I said to insert a rocket (you know where) and get the blinds finished and come. I feel so embarrassed and stupid about this whole saga. I know that if someone wants to supply a service they should have some working capital to cover their costs until they can deliver. I am going to visit his factory now to see if he is ****** and then wait and see what the weekend brings. My problem is, if I get too angry and threatening (legal, not physical) I may not ever get anything. Anyone reading this, learn from my stupidity here Re: Precision Doors & Blinds Pty Ltd (Wayne), trouble too? 3Sep 21, 2007 3:51 pm You may have been too trusting but at least you can take comfort in the fact that you are a nice person. You felt sorry for him and it will be cold comfort if you lose lots of money but if everyone acted with compassion (and it was rewarded with honesty of course) the world would be a nicer place.
Hope it all works out for you. Re: Precision Doors & Blinds Pty Ltd (Wayne), trouble too? 4Sep 21, 2007 5:04 pm What a bummer. I am so paranoid about small businesses - on one hand you do want to give them a go, but them something like this can happen...
Hope it turns out OK. Re: Precision Doors & Blinds Pty Ltd (Wayne), trouble too? 5Sep 21, 2007 6:26 pm Hi

Re: Precision Doors & Blinds Pty Ltd (Wayne), trouble too? 6Sep 21, 2007 6:57 pm He said “he does the selling, measure and quote manufacture and installation....I don’t let anyone else touch my blinds.” .
He then said “that the blinds were not ready as the company making them up hadn’t finished” Does this not up to you?….or DID this not add up to you? ((I feel so embarrassed and stupid about this whole saga. I know that if someone wants to supply a service they should have some working capital to cover their costs until they can deliver.)) In defence of the guy here….I most certainly DO NOT pay for my client’s furniture! I always get the money up front….we are talking Thousands of dollars here. On the one occasion I did do it, the client pulled out of the deal and I got stuck with a fire engine red lounge! Try selling that to just anyone! I hope it all works out…but after reading what Ed just put up….oh dear! Thanks for the replies. What he said didn't add up at all, but this was after I had handed over the money. Ed, I checked on ASIC too and found the name was de-registered and I don't have an ABN on the invoice either. I will let you know if he turns up this weekend as he said, as I still think he is too embarrassed to tell me the truth (whatever that may be). I suspect he has used my money to pay for other clients debts or materials. He really did not need 100% to cover the costs of my job unless he was planning to make no profit whatsoever. From my part it is a mindset, now I have paid 100% I have no bargaining power (for want of a better term) to get the job done as promised. If I had only paid 50%, I wouldn't be worried so much and not think the things he is saying to me are just excuses. When/if the job gets completed, I will let him know that a bit of simple communication would have saved some stress on both our parts. Last weekend when he had his phone off and could not be found I really thought I was conned, a 40cent phone call on his part would have been the answer! Until next time... Re: Precision Doors & Blinds Pty Ltd (Wayne), trouble too? 8Oct 04, 2007 7:14 pm Here is the latest:
He did not turn up that weekend, but came and installed the security door on 27/9. He told me that was done when I called on the 27th to ask where he was. He told me that he would come back in the next day or two to replace the rivets in the hinges as they were weakened during the powder coating process and to give us the key. He also said that he woudl come over the weekend of 29 + 30 to install our blinds. I called him on Sunday afternoon 30/9 to ask where he is. He said the weekend is no good, but fine for Monday or Tuesday. I called him this Monday 1/10 to confirm, he says should be right some time this week. I ask what about the Monday or Tuesday promise? He just says this week. I sent him an SMS today asking for a firm date for install or refund. He did not reply. I called him approx 7.00PM today to ask what was happening with our blinds. The response...."Sorry I am out on site.... sorry my battery is going flat....." phone disconnects. OK, now my reason for posting all of this was I suspected that there may be others out there whom have been treated the same way. Taking money from people without intending to supply the goods or services is an offence,. I have also posted this elsewhere. I am sick of the 'stories' and this is my plan: Contact the local Police and give a full run-down of the events Contact the local council and advise of a possible illegal backyard business Contact ASIC and advise of an individual trading under a de-registered business name Contact the ATO and advise of the lack of ABN and cash transactions Contact consumer affairs and advise of the way we have been treated Contact my local paper to see if they would be interested in running the storey And that is just for starters. If you can think of anything else that would be within the bounds of the law and my consumer rights, I would sure appreciate any advice. Re: Precision Doors & Blinds Pty Ltd (Wayne), trouble too? 9Oct 04, 2007 7:18 pm Well…..I wouldn’t want to be in HIS shoes by the time you’re finished with him!
Well done…..go for it! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Precision Doors & Blinds Pty Ltd (Wayne), trouble too? 10Oct 07, 2007 8:53 pm Ok, time for a happier update.
We now have 60% of the work done, so it is looking good. I received an appology over how everything has gone and the rest of the job should be finished tomorrow. I promised not to give him any more grief with my constant phone calls too. I know you shouldn't email when mad, so maybe shouldn't post either . There is now no need for me to carry-on any more and I retract any negative comments I have made about Precision Doors and Blinds. My first thoughts about Wayne were correct, he is a decent bloke. Why things went the way they did, I am not sure as we waited three weeks after the promised date after paying all upfront at his request. To me, it doesn't matter now, as the work that has been done is excellent and I have no worries about receiving the remainder 40% of the work. What a load of #$$#^ I wrote above Three weeks later after all was promised to be finished, the mobile is never answered or turned off. The worst part is he indicated to me last time he was doing more quotes/jobs in my area - I have posted a warning elsewhere..... Thats sh*t.. Re: Precision Doors & Blinds Pty Ltd (Wayne), trouble too? 16Oct 29, 2007 9:01 pm Ant I think you know aht you are dealing with now.
Quote: He has taken a fair bit of money from us for a security door and custom made venetian blinds. I would not suggest this is typical small business - more a case of a meeting a crook - Unfortunatly they exist. Any business that cannot afford to invest in themselves - ie request a deposit to show committment - and the rest comes as progress payment and a reasonable part of it is the final deal - is not worth dealling with. I got a similar sob story in europe in the late 80's and lost 100 pound to this sly pom who sold me a sob story of he had left the continent without any exchanged money - so could I cash a cheque as I was heading back to england the following day and had some spare pound notes. OK I bought it - his cheque bounced many times, the bank (and other banks) said not surprised. Once bitten - never again. Do I hate pom's no - that was just one individual. So Chase him - Get what you can from the deal - learn from it - and move on, and as you've done here - educate others on your mistake. Steve It will be neat but you won't have much freeboard.
