I know that for heavy things you should hang them off a noggin or part of the frame, but how much weight can you hang off the plaster only? I'm eyeing off a few bits of metal wall art on ebay (I've emailed them to find out how heavy they are) that I want to hang in the middle of walls. One of them I want to hang in the middle of the bathroom wall across from the vanity, but there's no support where I would want to hang it. Of course I've thought of this after our plaster went up Re: How much weight can a wall take? 2Jul 05, 2010 11:48 pm We managed to hang a very ornate and very heavy mirror just off two heavy duty hooks. Didn't help my anxiety levels, I was petrified it was going to fall on one of the kids (or on my crystal lol). Next time I'll just get it done properly to save the stress. Re: How much weight can a wall take? 3Jul 06, 2010 6:04 am you can get screw in wall plugs from places like bunnings that can take around 12kg mounted in the plaster only Re: How much weight can a wall take? 4Jul 06, 2010 8:47 am Just wander along the hooks and hangers section at Bunnings and read the labels. There are all kinds of hangers, you just need to know the weight of the piece you're going to hang. I found some that hold up to 20kg, just banged into the plasterboard. If it's reasonably heavy, I'd go for one of these types: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ There are a lot of different types, but forget about the stick-on ones for anything with any weight. Two hooks can help distribute the load - and with pictures, it's easier to get the frame nice and straight. Really heavy? Screw it into studs - if you can find them and they're in the right place.... Re: How much weight can a wall take? 5Jul 06, 2010 6:40 pm Thanks so much guys. One of them is 3kg, the other is 7kg spread over 3 pieces so I'm happy to get some hooks and put them in the walls now. Hi Mofflepop, I would recommend finding a building designer to prepare plans, they should design to your specified budget. The benefit is you can tender the project out… 9 20398 Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5179 7 11983 |
