Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 04, 2010 6:25 pm Hi, luckily it's winter and nothing much dries on the line at this time of year. We have been in the house over 2mths now and still no clothesline erected. This is because we were waiting on the landscaping plans. Now that we have pre-lim plans we have an idea where the line will be going. So far the hills-hoist type has been factored in. However whilst we like the look of the square fold ones I actually think we should be getting a hills-hoist type-dries clothes quicker. We have had the square type in the rental and to be honest I hated putting towels on the line with the clothes as drying factor was an issue. I am interested in seeing anyone's lines, square, hills-hoist and so on. The new hills-hoist ones you can fold down and also remove and you can also put a shade cloth over it and have a party.... ......and I also remember as a kid had so much fun swinging around on one. Doubt the modern ones would hold like the old ones did. I was thinking something like this..... http://www.digitallibrary.com.au/resour ... .jpg%20%7D The shed, tank and line will all be hidden by a hedge eventually. Re: Show me your clothesline plz. 2Jul 04, 2010 7:10 pm Dollar The new hills-hoist ones you can fold down and also remove and you can also put a shade cloth over it and have a party.... You will never take it down. In 22 years, we removed ours exactly twice. Once when we were having the landscaping done, and again for a party, when we hired a marquee. The rest of the time, up it stayed... I may have folded it once or twice, to make it easier to mow under, but it stayed firmly in the ground. The dog chewed the handle off it too... stupid plastic bits. I prefer them for hanging space, and also for ease of use - as long as you have the room. But for fitting into compact back yards, the wall type ones work better. Now if only the weather would warm up and dry out, so I could use ours again. Re: Show me your clothesline plz. 3Jul 04, 2010 7:17 pm Re: Show me your clothesline plz. 4Jul 04, 2010 7:26 pm Dollar I have one similar to kek's, but it also has a lower level which comes out about 1/3 the depth of the top level. Lower level great for longer items like pants, and undies & tea towells etc...go on top level above it. Do you understand what I mean? I will take a pic tomorrow if u are interested. The suppliers name and phone number is on the side if u want. Re: Show me your clothesline plz. 5Jul 04, 2010 7:29 pm Thanks Kek and Handmick what you are explaining sounds great. I know what you mean. I like these as they are more hidden even if they aren't folded down. Do you fold yours down much Kek? Re: Show me your clothesline plz. 6Jul 04, 2010 7:31 pm Hi Dollar, There have been numerous threads on clotheslines in the past. I've found some that you might find interesting! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32127&hilit=clothesline viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14545&hilit=clothesline I still love mine, and it's hidden out of view of living areas. I haven't used it for a while as it's been to rainy! Handmick, sounds like the same one I have. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! Dollar, if you have the space, consider installing an indoor wall-mounted folding line in your laundry for the miserable can't-get-anything-dry season. Beats having ugly clothes horses sitting around in living rooms. I have the space (and a heating vent), just haven't bought the clothes line yet. IKEA make one and there's another available from Howard's, or you can get the compact Hills indoor/outdoor model at Bunnings. Yes, I fold mine down all the time. It's easy and it looks so much neater. And I am a neat freak. Re: Show me your clothesline plz. 8Jul 04, 2010 7:39 pm That's it Stormy!! The lower level adds alot more line space. There is enough line space for us and I wash for 4. The place I got mine is called City living Clotheslines...ph (02) 95203775, or 0418463410....I got it about 5 years ago and it was about $170 including postage ( they are probably less now, and everywhere...dunno). Re: Show me your clothesline plz. 9Jul 04, 2010 9:46 pm Winter should be no obstacle to drying clothes outside on the line. All of our washing is dried on the line outside - no dryer and no clothes horse inside. Our two section fold-down line does have the advantage of having a laserlite roof however. The roof actually folds down with the inner section of the line so we can fold the larger section out of the way (the line is over the path beside the house) and still maintain the cover. It's dark outside now but if I remember when I get home from work tomorrow I shall try and take a photo if anyone is interested... Re: Show me your clothesline plz. 11Jul 05, 2010 5:50 pm Dollar What' sort of line do you have MsWilmot? I'm pretty sure the line is just a bog standard Daytek dual fold-down model on a ground mount kit. The cover isn't all that pretty but does the job admirably. It's just clear roofing stuff screwed into a timber frame. Daytek do actually sell their own cover but I don't like the fact that it actually shades the line as well (That and having the sheeting at home, my cover was dirt cheap). Re: Show me your clothesline plz. 12Jul 05, 2010 6:01 pm I really like it Wilmot. Pretty nifty idea to have it covered in times like this. Might have to consider having one like this. Thank you fro the photo. Re: Show me your clothesline plz. 13Jul 05, 2010 8:20 pm Kek, does your line hold much weight? We get a clothes line similar to yours in with a package we purchased for the house, but our clothesline is always full everyday, not only towels, but dirty and heavy work clothes. Dear J.K. But there are bigger fold out ones available too. Each line on mine is 3m long, and easily fits Queen bed sheets without bunching up. I'm not sure of the width of king bed ones, though! I have never once completely filled my line, and I don't wash everyday, and always do full-ish loads. I have hung sheets, towels and a general light load on my line at the one time (family of 4), and I have a 7.5kg machine, and there was still a bit of room to spare. Total hanging space on my line is 36m, which is pretty good! Not sure how much total line space is on the hoists... Handmick, mine was about $250 delivered from NSW last October... We have a old fold out one now, and when i wash the sheets and doonas in summer, it looks on the verge of breaking Like I said earlier, the rotary type have the most line space, but not everyone has the room for one - we certainly don't. Ours is the biggest folding line that Hills make, and it takes three full loads, no problem at all. I'd rarely have more than that to hang out at once anyway - with the time a front loader takes to run a cycle, I'd be washing all day to get through it. A load or two a day stops the laundry from disappearing under mountains of washing. I've had it full of towels and jeans and heavy pants and jumpers, and it's as sturdy as could be. I do need to re-tension the lines.... but the frame is very strong. This time of year I don't bother hanging out towels or sports socks or anything with any weight in the fabric - it's a total waste of time when it's this cold, nothing dries. In fact most weeks I don't use it at all. Roll on summer! I love my clothes flapping in the sunshine and wind. Re: Show me your clothesline plz. 18Jul 06, 2010 8:43 pm I think we'll be getting a hills-hoist. Thanks for the photos and tips Very much appreciated. Re: Show me your clothesline plz. 19Dec 31, 2010 8:58 pm Stormy, do your sheets touch the bricks when hung up? Re: Show me your clothesline plz. 20Dec 31, 2010 9:24 pm We have a retractable Hills one under our outdoor area, as seen http://www.lifestyleclotheslines.com.au/hills-extenda-6-retractable-clothesline. I think I have only ever filled it twice, and both times were with sheets, towels and a fair bit of general clothing. We used to have a Hills Rotary, but removed it as I have a shocking habit of leaving clothes out there and too many things faded in the sun, so we brought a new line to go undercover. Thanks mate.
