My wife and I have recently purchased a block of land in a coastal area in South Gippsland. We can't afford to build a house at the moment but we submitted an application to build a 6x9 shed. The shed is required to house lawn mower and other maintenance equipment along with building materials that we slowly procure. The shed is necessary as I have a bad back and cannot constantly load and unload the lawnmower and other equipment that are required to maintain the block.
The Council rejected my application as their policy is 'no sheds are allowed to be built on vacant land' even with documents from my chiropractor that detailed my back problems. They said the only way to build a shed would be to get a building permit for a house and shed which would require both buildings to be started at the same time.
I can't afford to pay for someone to maintain the block and I wish to maintain the standard that the neighbors have set. The council has suggested I can appeal the decision but has indicated it will cost a significant amount of money.
Does anybody have any suggestions or advise on what I can do regarding this problem.
