Two completely unrelated timbers. Australian Cedar is a deciduous native hardwood which is not logged in this country anymore. The other is a commonly used softwood native to North America. The is an exotic species called 'Kalantos' which is used (and approved for use by the Heritage Council) in lieu of Australian Cedar when neccesary Re: Where do I buy an Australian cedar ( lookalike) garage d 7Jul 07, 2010 8:22 pm Thanks for the feedback. I have contacted Steel Line and there Decro Wood range (colour AUBURN) is an EXACT match to my front door. However they are charging $4400 for a double door!!! ridiculous. I have had quotes for cedar look in colourbond for $2100. I have also contact Gryphon, there TEAK cedar look door is "similar" to my door, but not exact and they quoted $3000. I am now not sure whether or not to pay the extra for an exact match???? we are also attempting to color match the ceiling lining of our balcony in the same color. I will post a pic. I am uploading them now in photobucket. Re: Where do I buy an Australian cedar ( lookalike) garage d 11Jul 07, 2010 10:59 pm Here is our Teak Colourbond door from Gryphon. It's a bit bright as it was a sunny day when photo was taken and ours faced directly in to the sun. For your information, our timber front door is not an exact match to our timber look garage door. We have a solid merbau timber front door, but it doesn't bother me as they are not directly next to each other, and our front door is set back a bit too. You have to live with it, so the decision really has to come from you. My thoughts are, when the sun shines on things they all can look different (one is metal and one is timber so will reflect light differently), even if it was an exact colour match. I can recommend the gryphon door, the motor is made in Germany and is really quiet, also they don't charge if you want windows. The garage door seems to have a few shades through it to give is quite an authentic wood look. Good luck, we are really happy with our door. http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu350/davdenwa/Brindabella%20Nearly%20Completed%20April%202010/P1070300.jpg http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu350/davdenwa/Brindabella%20Nearly%20Completed%20April%202010/P1070278.jpg Re: Where do I buy an Australian cedar ( lookalike) garage d 12Jul 07, 2010 11:45 pm Jaelee, I agree, the sun brings out so many different shades. My front door is not solid timber. Its aluminium powder coated in the cedar look. Despite the pic (in was taken within the house), its very similar to the Teak - when sunny. I love your garage door, and your front door! I have heard that the Gryphon doors quality standards are quite high in comparison to its competitors. Thanks for your opinion and the pics. It helped in the decision making process. The installers did a * job, scratched the door, installed too close to the brick works - half of the paint is gone. The 'German' motor is quiet, but the panels themselves make so much noise - my neighbours come out to see where is the noise coming from. Bad, BAD customer service. 2 months and they can't get it fixed. BAD experience. I am actually taking them to vcat. Never again.
