Re: Cost of power points 9Jun 30, 2010 8:22 pm Needa, Without knowing the details, it does sound expensive. Maybe if you let the forum know which city and which part of that city you're in, then maybe someone can suggest a reasonable sparky. Suggest you ring around also. Recently I had 3 quotes (including one from a friend of a friend). Prices varied significantly, and the friend of a friend turned out to be the most expensive. I'm 10mins south of Adelaide CBD, and the sparky I found lives 10 mins from my place, and his charges are very reasonable (labour $70/hr) and he worked at a good pace. So, needless to say, if I have some electrical work to do in the future, he'll be the first person I call. Chris Re: Cost of power points 10Jun 30, 2010 9:32 pm We live about 1hr 1/2 from Perth however there are three sparkies in town so they don't have have monopoly. I refuse to use one of them, they ripped off the old lady up the road I don't think they can charge travel as their yard is only 5min max away. AJW i goggled the Clipsal 2025 double power point and that is not the ones we got, they are just the plain white ones that rrp of $9.90. There was two of them but they were only here for 1hr. I think i might pay them a visit to discuss the bill. Re: Cost of power points 12Jul 02, 2010 2:05 pm needa i am new and i hope i am posting in the right section. The other week we got two double power points put in. I got the bill today and it is $377.74 . I was shocked it seems far too much the bill is broken down like this Double power points $22.25 ea 44.50 2.5mm twin &earthx15 $3.80ea 57.00 wall clip $1.90 1.90 labourx2 240. grand total of $377.74 So i know we should of got a quote but to me it is crazy, i know the points don't cost $22 you can get them for under $10. My question is what do people think is a reasonable price to have power points install? I am thinking about questing them on the bill? Sorry to make this my first post, but i just had to sign up to answer this!!! I've been an Electrician for the passed 23 years, and have had my own Electrical Contracting business for 14 of those years. Firstly, i never like to see posts or hear questions like, no offence to needa, but i've been in the game long enough and can picture the type of client (those in the game know exactly what i'm talking about). Secondly, there are some mugs in the game that are happy to rip people off... Thirdly, most of us do the right thing.. and have to always explain ourselves from the doings of those that over charge. Now... i was very happy to tell needa exactly what a Double Power Point costs, but as she already insists she can buy them for under $10. Which is total and uttter rubbish!!! unless they are stolen. Even when you buy them buy the 100 and get 35% off trade like i do... they are still not that cheap. All i can say, is more info is needed to determine if the bill is a bit $$$ or not. It seems about middle to highish, but sure not out of control, but once again, more info is needed. I will say the price for the cable is pretty $$$ in my view, $80 for 100 meter roll of 2.5 RBE, even selling at $2 per meter is making plenty. Always 2 ways to look at a Tradesman coming to your house to preform some work. One way is you got use of 2 Tradesman, a van stocked full of $$$ worth of tools, stock, licences, insurance, fees and all at you disposal for an hourly rate... The other is .... well lets just say they shop at Aldi, Bunnings and watch home improvement programs with little idea of the real world. To add, i rarely charge for travel and have never charged a fee to turn up, just my hourly rate for the time it takes to do the job. I have a book full of return customers, infact, its 85% of my business. And i often get paid more money than i charge (don't ask... i have no idea why myself) So i take you were left with a Certificate of Electrical Safety??? Also if its just the price of the pp's that concern you, and your quote of $10 per dpp, its only a saving of $25 from the total bill.... you could of bought a 4way power board and an extension lead for that, job done. Re: Cost of power points 13Sep 12, 2011 3:04 pm I was just quoted $40 for a double power point supply and install, back to back with an existing power point. And $75 for a double power point under the ensuite bench. Plus GST. Seems like a good deal after reading your post here needa! I was at Bunnings the other day and saw the basic double power points for $7 each. $10 from sparkydirect.com.au for an HPM 10 amp double power point. If they ask you if you have had any done say yes and if they ask what the quote was tell them it doesn't matter what the other quotes are and to give you their best price. if they are way over they either don't want the job or are trying to make up for a lack of work going around. needa, $120hr is redic high, but the work has been done now. I don;t think you'll get a discount, but good luck anyway. Re: Cost of power points 15Sep 12, 2011 5:13 pm My BIL is a sparky and told us that generally they charge $110 inc materials to put in a double power point. This applies to the walls that are around the external of the home as anything in the internal walls has to be 'cut in' as we have the double brick here in WA... The road to success is always under construction House completed April 2011 - slowly making it a home...
