Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 29, 2010 10:01 pm Can anyone help me??? I have got tangled up with a * builder who convinced me he would replace my return verandah. The house is 100 years old and had turned posts and decorative arches in timber. The rafters were checked out and attached to a ring beam on the wall of the house. This guy turned up today ready to attach the rafters with some kind of steel bracket (looked like a gang nail truss thing). I told him that I did not think that was the correct thing to do, especially on an old house. He is a very strong personality and told me it would be much stronger doing it that way. I am sure this is not how my new (old) verandah should look, especially as I am doing 'restoration' not modernisation. Is there a carpenter out there who can tell me how he should be attaching the beams?
