Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 28, 2010 5:32 pm Ok, so we're possibly getting a very exciting opportunity to own our own little piece of Rural Vic. We've been offered 5-6 acres of land VERY cheaply..... as cheap as Free. Yes... we are VERY lucky. Whilst this is all very exciting, I am worried that the land won't be able to be used to build on. I know we'll need to go to the council at some stage and ask about it, and I don't really want to accept the land if we cannot build on it (I have a funny feeling, that in this shire the minimum to build on is 20 acres due to the zoning, which I know next to nothing about). The land already has a house on it, although it is run down and unlivable (weatherboards all torn off, walls knocked down, no roof etc) SO we are assuming that it has power and phone already connected. Water will be from tanks. Anyway, I have no idea what to ask the council about really... and was wondering if anyone could help me? Do you think that seeming as there is already a dwelling on the property, and we'd be knocking that down and building over the top of it, that we may be able to escape any possible land minimum clause? I want to know everything there is to know about what could/could not possibly happen before we accept the offer of the land. Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer my Questions! Spaksta. Re: Land opportunity 2Jun 28, 2010 6:02 pm Hi, are you able to give any more information? What area? Every council will differ. Friends of ours bought 5 acres including in country VIC, they haven't been able to demolish the existing dwelling, however they are renovating and extending it. Re: Land opportunity 3Jun 28, 2010 6:21 pm It's in the Loddon Shire... North/North West of Bendigo. Apparently (hubby has only told me today) the section of land is part of a larger block. Hubs spoke to someone at the council who said we'd need to apply for a sub division to section off the 5-6 acre block. It already seems like such a drama. You would think that for a shire who are losing residents by the drove, they would be happy to compromise and approve people to build etc so they can make more money! I don't get it... but I guess I'm only very very new to all this. Yeah I don't know why I came to a forum. Place is full of wierdos/pedos thought internet may help but I suppose I'll try my luck with someone in person. Cheers. I tried… 0 6449 Need advice on the backyard plan above. Should I excavate and cut all of the dirt to level with the house slab or semi-excavate as per photo above? Both left and right… 0 24877 13 6636 |
